Yesterday I went to the specialist BMW repair shop whose owner was the technical manager of the biggest local BMW dealer.
The issues were really difficult to address. We ended up dissembling the seat and found out this M4 seat was already retrofitted with a few OEM parts, including M3 luminous logo (which misled me to believing it's a M3 seat), a few electronic and new merino leather trim (which is why it looks so new). They caused a lot of unusual errors. The fix to the problems - airbag light, reverse adjustment, seat memory functionalities, auto forward and back and logo luminous, involves some wiring and coding. It's definitely no plug and play and no easy job. Finally, the shop owner fixed them all and the seat works 100% properly. I flashed BM3 STG1 OTS to his M235i in return LOL Many thanks for all providing tips in this thread! A few takes on M4 seat: The good - Marino leather and the seat style are way better than M2 black Dakota. It feels a much more expensive car inside. However, that's the only good about it. The bad - 1) The M4 seat back is wider than M2 and can even rub the armrest a little. You need to 'close' the side support a little to avoid that. 2) The M4 seat has way less back support than M2 so it's not comfortable. I mean it's not a stiffer seat, but just way less ergonomic than M2. A neck pillow is required in my opinion to give adequate support. I already felt pain given one week seat time on it. Now with a good neck pillow, I'll say it's 80% M2 seat comfortable. I drove my friend's M4 from time to time, but every time it was not a long drive. So I didn't feel the pain from the lack of back support. Now I do really. Would I do it again? No idea, need more weeks seat time to know.
