Speakers spontaneously died?

I was listening to Sirius radio at low volume and several loud pops came through the speakers. Switched over to USB input. Same thing. Then the sound went out completely for several seconds. A phone call happened to come through right after that. It rang through the speakers but I couldn't hear anything when I answered. A few minutes later the sound was out completely and has been for the past few days.

I have an appointment later this week at the dealer. I coded a few things last year with Bimmercode. What are the chances they'll give me a hard time about that?

Sounds like the amp has gone. Happened to me and many others on here.

Thanks! Sounds like the problem. No pun intended. I live two hours away from the dealer. If the amp has to be ordered, that's two trips. Ugh.

Got my amp replaced under warranty last week.
Same problem.

Fortunately, took 1 day at the dealership to fix. They had the part in stock. Guess it is very common problem in all 2ers and M2s

Ask them to order an amp in prior to you going. That's what I did to save the second trip

I think most dealerships will be very used to replacing these shoddy amps so will know that a new amp is most likely the fix.

It's not the amps that are the problem it's the vent directly above it which lets water in onto the amp and pop! It's a terrible design.

I've had my amp replaced and stopped jet washing in the wheel arch to get rid of any crap as it forces water through the vent. On a left hand drive it will be the drivers side to avoid.

That may cause some amps to go but on the most part the amps are utter horse shit. I have not had my windows tinted or had a pressure washer in the arches yet I have had my amp replaced twice, as have many others.

What year is your car? Wondering if it's a specific problem to certain M2s since I believe they "upgraded" the amp for the LCI but maybe I'm wrong

Interesting! I installed an ASD delete harness but wish I had looked more carefully in that area. Is it worth to use something to close off that vent? What's the vent for anyways?

Mine is a LCI car. I was told by a BMW service advisor that it's to equalise cabin pressure to stop your ears popping. The vents open outwards away from the car. If what I've been told is correct I can't see why blocking it off would be a problem. Never seen it on any other cars I've had.
