From Porsche back to BMW, my M2CS

I went from E92 M3 to the F80 M3 and eventually went up to P cars to include a Turbo S and a GT3. I really missed the practicality that M cars provide including trunk and functional rear seats. I started browsing and disliked the new M3/4 styling so I decided to pursue M2 CS. Many compare it to the GT4 but quite honestly the GT4 wasn't for me, i feel the M2CS offers so much more practicality and is a much more special/exclusive vehicle.

Overall I love this thing! I went with DCT as the GT3 is manual and I feel it is such a well rounded sports car.

My only gripe is how quiet this car is. I can't seem to figure out how to open the exhaust valves any pointers ? Im used to the exhaust button on the P cars but is there such a thing for this M2CS?

Exhaust valves are more so directly linked to commanded load. The button just sets the maximum state at which the valve can open.

Congratulations OP, beautiful car! I felt the same about the exhaust, however I hated the way it looked as well. There are many exhaust systems that bring the sound to the level you are looking for. Many go with Active Autowerke Equal length mid pipe mated to a axle back of your choice. I considered it and still might, however I went with the Dinan exhaust. It is only about 20% louder, however my main focus was aesthetic.

Where did you find the car? How many miles on her?

Thank you guys. Got it from a collector in Scottsdale with 1,500 miles and full Xpel ultimate. Still smells new.

On my GT3 I figured a way to plug the vacuum lines to the valves to always keep them open. Is there a way to do this ?

I've got an Akra mid pipe and rear section sitting in the garage, anybody have any experience with this setup before I install them ?

You and I have the same car, I just have the black wheel option... I was very conflicted as I was under deposit on a CPO 991.1 (Sapphire Blue) GTS with aero kit that I was obsessed with at the time. When the CS came out, it spoke to me on a few levels, especially the practicality of the rear seat as I have two little ones that like to ride with me.

As far as exhaust, I felt the same way, even after commanding the flaps open with Bimmerlink each time I drove it. I recently installed a Active Autowerke Equal Length (EL) resonated mid-pipe and Remus Race rear section that I got off another forum member. Driving is a MUCH more emotional experience now and I love the fun it's given back to driving the car!

I know it's not the setup you have about to go on, but figured it was worth sharing...

Congratulations on this move. I share much of your experience in this space. My only gripe was also the exhaust sound. I tried the AAEL plus Akra and settled on the Akra only. VERY happy with the final outcome and the car now ticks every one of the boxes underpinning my own high expectations.

Love the stock exhaust. Loud when you press the loud pedal. Quiet when you don't. Just how I like it.

I **believe** it's the same as the OG and M2C. You can drive the car in sport mode medium hard to get the valves open, shut the car off, and unplug the valve actuator in the back by the muffler section. You can also buy a manual valve controller.

Beautiful car, great wheel/brake spec as well.

They open in efficient on the CS as well. They open at strange times too. Like you'll pull away from a traffic light and the car is loud and deep. I still haven't figured out the rhyme or reason. Other than that I really like it. Plus I always drive with the window open which is probably why I hear it so clearly.

Thank you fellas appreciate all the feedback.

This truly is a very special car I think bmw knocked it out the park with this one.

Such a well rounded every day sports car . I would hate to put it away in storage as some collectors do

I have heard the full Akra on a CS, the sound was nice. I would say only slightly louder than mine, but not as loud as the AAEL + Remus Race in the vid above. Your system is perfect. It is just loud enough and is much lighter than stock.

Do any of these exhaust mods create noticeable performance upgrades, or are they simply personal ear pleasers?

Never understood louder is better.

Yeah, exactly, that's why I said drive around in Sport mode a bit hard to force them open. It worked on my car for sure. Supposedly it can be done without even driving the car, you just turn the car on without starting it, put it in Sport and push the throttle to the floor and the valves open, then shut the car off, pull the plug and you're done. It works this way on the F80/F82 cars. There is a video on YouTube showing it.

I believe that while the valves are open that you can disconnect the wire on the valve and the valves will always be open. The problem is loud cold starts and your neighbors. You can also control the valves with a tune or aftermarket control box.

This is correct and what I have done on my car. I have done this successfully with 2 F80 and 2 F87.

The guys with the MPE can see the valves open, so it's a no-brainer. I'm on the stock exhaust and can't see them, nor hear them actuate, so I did it the safe way.

It's been a ongoing project. I have foam insulated it, closed off the attic and climate controlled. Been fun but a real money pit
