What's up everyone. Looking to gain a bit of insight with "street tire" pressures on our cars while on track. Thinking I'll start with 30 cold all around.
I'm running a set of 595RS-Pro tires (cheap seat time, not chasing laps) and curious to know who runs what pressures. Camber is 3.0f/ 2.5r I had a set of Falken FK510 and smoked through the rears quickly. I had a lapse in judgment and I feel I ran them a tad high/ did a bit too much sliding around. Anyways, thanks in advance. |

My experience so far with the M2 and a Mustang GT before, was 28ish PSI cold, and no more than 35psi hot. And lo and behold, my Camaro SS 1LE track prep manual calls out the same exact values. 28psi cool and 35 hot. The car is sunning Goodyear Eagle Supercar 3s. 220 thread wear.
Also look at tire temps. MPSS as well as Cup2s did not like being over 195F hot.

I've always adjusted from max hot. Meaning it depends on the track, the temp, and how hard you drive as to how much they go up. If too much, drop them before the next session. I've found the PSS are best at <= 38, max is 40, and above that get greasy, mostly due to reduced contact patch. Above 42psi, the tread blocks degrade quickly if you keep on it for a session.
If you start too low (< 30 IMO), the sidewalls could roll over, causing worse wear to the edges. find some chalk to mark the sidewalls and see how much is worn off at the end of a session.

In recent years I've become a huge fan of proper tire warm up which I'd previously neglected. Started under 30 is doable but I've learned that you have to baby the tires until they've come up to temp and inflated. Many variables in this as well, however. It's funny how much more fragile street tires can be than a DOT slick yet very robust in others. Keeps it exciting, I suppose |
