The consistently rising values says you are not alone... so not sure why the (as I read it) inference in shame of love an E36 M.

Thanks, I agree wholeheartedly that dreams bind us to goals!! I have been fortunate enough to purchase two dream cars in my life. I have always loved M cars and just about anything with a mid-engine. I managed to fulfill the second when I bought a used Cayman S in 2014 and then in September I got the M car.

There is no shame in loving the E36. Its just, I would bet a lot of 90's car enthusiasts would say that the MK4 is infinitely superior to the E36. Even among M3 fans, its not seen as the most desirable.

Its always tough being a second act. The E34 M5 has a similar position as the E36 as the more "forgotten"/less desirable generation in its lineage, despite both being excellent since they are between some excellent company (E30/E28 and E46/E39). If you think about it, the E36 was actually the first modern M3 or more so set the standard for the future of the M3, as the E30 was a track car than anything, since it was derived for racing, while the E36 and every generation so on was more of a dual purpose car designed to sell in larger numbers. Of course though, as things become worse and worse for BMW, and the newer M's become larger and more isolated, the older M's, even the less beloved generations, start to become truly appreciated, which is why we'll start seeing their values rise I believe.

Totally agree with you, there was so much goodness in the hand-built E34 M5. The rest of the E34 lineup was a so-so IMO, between underpowered 525i/530i offerings on a platform that was significantly heavier than the E28, and the Nikasil "challenges" on the V8. These may have contributed to the M5's stature, but certainly you're correct that the E28 M5 was a very, very hard act to follow.

Not sure why this video hasn’t made it to the front page yet, great info behind the BMW/Toyota collaboration, M2CS love and some great driving footage.

Almost makes me jealous of the Alpine White/Gold owners!

Agree the spec is beautiful, makes me really want one.

As for the front page it seems only ugly G8X's get that spot

LOL, too true. There is only so many G8x or X-whatever color threads I can take. Here we actually have informative content wrapped in a high production quality video with a storyline, it’s refreshing from the vast number of repetitive YouTube reviews using the same formula.

If, back in December 2019, Jason Camissa considered the BMW M2 Competition "BMW's best BMW"...

...then the BMW M2 CS must be "BMW's besterer BMW" or "BMW's bestest BMW".

M2C and M2 CS as 'ultra' and 'nec plus ultra' in the modern day BMW realm ? All subjective. Anyways, the F87 M2 was/is a good bloodline.

Yep, the M2CS was also one of his top cars of the year along the GT4, Model Y and CTR. M2 is at this point the only BMW left that he likes.

One of the best automotive videos I've ever seen. Reminded me of Top Gear with Clarkson and the boys.

Amazing production quality and exhaust notes turned to the max. I love all these cars. Cammisa is the most critical of BMW in the media, it's reassuring to know he loves the M2.

So what he's saying is the car is heavy and fugly? Because when I think of MKIV Supras that's what I'm thinking.

I don't think the M2CS is fugly at all. I have to disagree lol

Yes, the production really reminded me of OG Top Gear. Such a well done video!

M2 CS is not succesor of the Mk IV Supra but first generation of M3 EVO 2. Sport automotive world does not start with Toyota Supra. Try driving MK IV Supra first and than come back and say that is the best sports car that everything should compare.

Hey, the post made front page, glad to see something take over G8x color threads!

Maybe the moderators can correct the spelling of his name, Artemis?

I'm surprised by how much attention the CS gets, even the delivery kid at Target drive-up wanted to talk about the CS and I thought that generation doesn't like cars, there is hope yet!

Agreed, I thought it was a great video with tons of detail. Also the fact that Jason Cammisa loves the M2CS is a big deal considering he despises what BMW is doing and making. He even recently said it was one of his four top cars of the year, pretty high praise since he holds BMW to a very high standard.
That's my overall takeaway too, namely that he usually hates anything from Munich, so his words are high praise here. Seems this car is legend status already

I concur!! it's just reviewer's opinion, easily refuted.
