Comparing the TTRS or Cayman S to an M2, there is one way that the M2 wins hands-down: practicality. The TTRS has a decent amount of cargo space (hatch is big, and the seats fold), but the rear seats aren't usable by anyone over 4'11" - so kids-only.
My wife can fit comfortably in the back of the M2... allowing me to carry my brother in the front seat, and possibly even his (currently nonexistent) girlfriend as well. Can't do any of that in the Cayman.

BMW doesn't dare send an M2 press car, UDE car, or performance center car near anyone with the stock pads on. They are all shod with M performance pads. I've never heard of that on the M3 or M4.. |

M2 stock brakes are better than any stock brakes on any M I had before(E46 M3/E90 M3/1M and now M2)
I was rather pushing at Assen half a year ago for a few heats on a trackday but the brakes weren't any issue at all. Strange? Dunno, just my experience & opinion. Just like the rest of us here. Off course Pagid 'Yellow' and other SRF brakefluid(like I had in my 1M) will make things better. Cheers Robin |

I did an M School day with the BMWCCA club last month and the difference between the M3/M4's carbon brakes versus the M2 brakes was massive. I have the standard brakes on my M3 but haven't tracked it to compare. The M2 brakes on the track were really weak - scared the crap out of myself a few times trying to brake like I was in the bigger M's! Anecdotal, but I definitely felt they were under-braked.

Braking= Full pedal to metal totally(ABS might interfere depending on surface/tyres but just keep going and after the FULL mash you might want to modulate, let go and mid/exit corner modulate/full throttle depending. But REAL braking means not feathering the middle pedal Braking is an art, breaking too Cheers Robin |

Ttrs
I think I'd take a Cayman over all 3 if it had some crazy lease deal which they never do , otherwise I like the ttrs More than the m2 . Most people don't track their cars and from stoplight to stop sign , the ttrs will embarrass the m2 ( along with most cars , 0-60 in 3.5 ??? ) sign me up .

Real M cars (in other words, not counting these recent heavy, teched-out battleships) have never been about stoplight to stop sign. As others have said, if that's your thing, BMW is not your best bet.

I love love love my M2... But if I could afford a Cayman S/Boxster S, I would definitely get one over an M2. For me it's not a matter of preference, just a matter of cost.
The Audi TTRS is just an overpriced Golf/GTI and kind of a chick car IMO. Save yourself some cash and go buy a Golf R. Sorry but I have zero interest in it or the other M2 competitors like the hideous CLA 45 AMG. |

Maybe you aren't getting the same crappy pads we get here. Every bmw from E30 M3 on has had the ability to be taken to the track out of the box and can be wheeled around in the intermediate or even advanced group of an HPde with a good driver. This is not the case with the US M2. I experienced a soft pedal in about 4 laps and I Wouldn't recommend anyone but a novice to use the stock US M2 pads. I drove @1M_tex M2 and he also still has his 1M. I have zero doubt that he will concur. PS. Four weeks ago I just tracked my 1M with OEM pads on the same track that I went out with an M2. I had no problems all weekend. |

I have to say the pedal got softer after 2 laps or so, but it stopped when it had to That's why I stated 4-5 laps pushing. Not more. With Pagid Yellow(forgot the ref nr) you can go on for a few laps more, pedal stays harder etc. Cheers Robin |
