Edit of post: just to be clear I'm not saying the m2 has bad mileage. I'm stating that I'm surprised the x1 isn't better.

Wow, I'm actually pretty impressed by the car for MPG ( or at least the Canadian metric for it ). I've got about 12,000km on the odo and feel I can trust my readings more. In comparison:

MY2016 M2: 11.6 L/100km
MY2012 X1 ( 28i ): 10.2 L/100km

That surprises me because when I get into my M2, I tend to drive it harder and rev it out way more as a DD. On my X1, I really baby it and drive it gentle. Maybe it's winter and the X1 needs to warm up more and is running cold more or maybe the X1 xDrive is impacting L/100km.

Honestly though I haven't looked up the fuel efficiency specs and done that comparison, but just off hand I thought the X1 would be more efficient.

I don't know if I'm pleasantly surprised at the M2 or kind of annoyed my winter "beater" isn't better.

Side note, I think my old MY2013 335i w mppk was around 11.2 ( although my drive to work has changed so it's not exactly the same comparo)

You realize of course that in l/100km lower is better? In MPG the X1 is getting 27.7 & the M2 is getting 24.3.

Haha yes of course. I just thought it would be more than 10%.

I'm getting 26 MPG with the 2016 X1. Unknown as to the M2 due to continuous ice, snow and rock covered roads so it is garaged. From what I have read there is no way the M2 will match the X1 MPG average.

What kind of driving is that for the M2?
I get that commuting to/from work. If I push it a bit more I can't get near those numbers and I drive like a old man.

You must be driving like a grandma. I get 18 MPG with my golf R. Shift every shift at 4k rpm. Have some fun!

Yeah I was just hoping the x1 would be much better considering the engine and the way I drive it.

Despite different driving styles when in different cars, I would guess xdrive and winter temps come into play working against its efficiency.

edit: yes I am not complaining about the m2. Just thought the x1 would be better.

I'm getting 21mpg on M2 DCT. M235i AT got 23mpg for same route, speed and driving style. Basically have to fill up 1 day sooner.

I'm on the DVP a lot so highway... unless it's a parking lot. So I prob shift at 5000 rpm ( benefits of MPE encouragement) when I can. when it's a parking lot I do love to rev during stop and go creeping along.

I am! I swear! I even downshift dangerously close to 7000rpm! Guess more highway driving helps. But even on the highway I shift quite often just to hear the MPE.

DCT I presume. Extra overdrive gear helps. Reminds me of when I thought a smaller 6 cylinder engine would help with gas mileage. A gtr. I was getting 12 MPG! Lol.

How is your X1 that bad? With JB4 in mine I still got an average of about 9L/100. In my M2 I think at 16 MPG, whatever that is in L/100 lol

Ah I see why now.... the m2 is supposedly more efficient than the x1!

M2:
Fuel consumption (economy) - urban 11.6 l/100 km.
Fuel consumption (economy) - extra urban 6.7 l/100 km.
Fuel consumption (economy) - combined 8.5 l/100 km.

X1:
Fuel consumption (economy) - urban 13.0 l/100 km.
Fuel consumption (economy) - extra urban 7.3 l/100 km.
Fuel consumption (economy) - combined 9.4 l/100 km.

12mpg here. City downtown commute in terrible traffic to work plus weekend fun drive. Don't care.

27 miles per gallon or around 8.7 L/100 km. Got this on my way home after PCD (mostly interstate). I averaged around 22 miles at Tail of the Dragon and around 20 miles with heavy stop and go traffic. Normal commute is around 22 mpg.
