Jason Cammisa: The M2CS is the True MK4 Supra Successor

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
An excellent video from automotive journalist Jason Cammisa, explaining why the BMW M2 is better and more true example of a successor to the MK4 Supra, as well as some insight and comparisons of the Supra's history and BMW's relationship with Toyota between the Z4 and MK5 Supra.

What a great video... I'm halfway through it and have to get back to work but thoroughly entertained so far by the discussion about the z4, cs and supra. Thanks for sharing.

Agreed, I thought it was a great video with tons of detail. Also the fact that Jason Cammisa loves the M2CS is a big deal considering he despises what BMW is doing and making. He even recently said it was one of his four top cars of the year, pretty high praise since he holds BMW to a very high standard.

I remember his 1M review....it sold me on the car. "If you want what am M3 *could* be, get one of these things!"

He also compared the DCT to using a turkey baster to get your girl pregnant.....gets the same results but much less fun, or something like that. Ironically, I took my CS with a DCT.

Haha, yes his sense of humor is very sarcastic and controversial, but I always appreciate his lack of BS, he tells it how it is, of course though some won't agree.

DCT or MT, its a fantastic car, and an end of an era car for BMW.

Hah! I'm a longtime Toyota fan who thought the Supra would be his next car for years and years and years. But....then the MKV happened and it didn't get a manual so I had to jump into an M2c instead. I always felt like the S55 powered F87s were a more natural follow up to the MKIV than the MKV was.

That is a great video! I can remember visiting my local Toyota lot in the mid-90s, when I was a teenager, and drooling over the Supra Turbo on the showroom floor. As mentioned, the problem was it sat, and sat, and sat, and sat some more at WAY too high of a price for a Toyota. I was lucky enough to finally drive it after 6 plus months of collecting dust. Wow, it was truly amazing, and I wished I had been in a much better financial position to buy it. Alas, the days of being a broke teenager. Really cool comparison to the M2 CS!

My uncle had a MK4 in the 90's and it was just awesome. He eventually sold it and got in a different sports car. He is kicking himself to this day for selling the car.

Agreed. I've found the MK5 Supra to be disappointing. Its not a bad car per say, it just lacks any special feeling to it. It looks half decent, and is a bit cheaper than most competitors, but honestly it just isn't a memorable experience nor is it truly a Toyota (nor does it have the benefits of a Toyota) so I found it overall a good if uninspiring choice. Oh and the buffeting kills it for me. If I can't put the windows down in my car and listen to the engine that's a fail.

Biggest thing killing the new Supra is the lack of stickshift. It really just makes no sense.

I'd also add the (now) true M3 in the lineup.

BMW has their work cut out for them when it comes to the next generation.

I didn't realize your post beat me to this one. To me the M2cs checks all the boxes that the new supra should have been. Aside from the high stance and different styling obviously.

He's just advertising that this show will be on Hagerty's YouTube channel every week with more content coming. I don't think it will be specifically M2 related, this was a big video that he had been teasing for weeks, but every episode will feature a different automotive icon.

I can't wait to see more. I find it pretty ironic that the cars in this video is the exact thinking and decision making I put into getting the M2cs.

If Ben Affleck and Adam Sandler had a baby ... you'd get Jason Cammisa.

Great video, thank you for sharing.

LOL. Very true. About midway between the two for likability too

Great video though, one of my favorite reviews so far.

Loved seeing this video. When I was looking to replace my M235i it really came down to these two cars; except the M2 in Competition trim. While I like the Mk4 there are so many other 90's cars that I lusted after more, as such the BMW-ness of the MK5 was never a drawback to me. Ultimately, while I liked that the Supra had newer and more tech, its lack of a manual and compromises to daily usability removed it from contention. Additionally, one of the 90's cars I lusted after more than a MK4 was the E36 M3 (I know, shoot me, I was 8 when it came out) and I have longed to own an M car since.

If I shoot you, I'd have to shoot myself first because I bought the CS based on my childhood dream which was the 2002ti

Childhood dreams are what binds us to our goals no matter how long it takes to achieve them
