So I went and ordered 4 PS4Ss on TireRack and just used the "size selector". It told me to put in the car model later and did not balk at it and let me order them.

Earlier today I got a call from a TireRack rep saying that the default M2 tire load rating is "XL" and that the tires I ordered were not "XL". He then went and did the math on what load the tires would see based on the weight of the car and said these non-XLs are "just fine".

Is anyone else running non-XLs and does it really matter? I assume the sidewall might be less stiff which might be bad? I think these were also cheaper FYI.

What tire sizes did you order? There aren't very many non-XL tires listed for the PS4S, and they all appear to be OEM tires for other manufacturers. If that's correct, I would expect the tire to act differently, but I'm not sure if anyone can confirm whether that would be good or bad.

One size up on front and back - 255/35/19 and 275/35/19. I have the same question into Michelin but my guess is they'll come back and just say that BMW recommends XL so we recommend XL.

I'll prob just return them and wait till XLs come in - if I can't get a straight answer I'll always wonder - my guess is that the XLs are recommended since they have the highest safety/load margin possible since it's a performance car.

I would wait for the XL tire. That is what I have on my M2 with 255/35/19 and 275/35/19.

Thanks for the reply. I'll prob just do that to be on the safe side.

Any downsides with going one size up? Too much grip, rock chips etc?

No downside that I know of. I am running 255/275 combination. Here is a long thread on increasing tire size to 255/275: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1468422
