M0010 Build Thread - July 2023 Update

Hi All,

So the last time I updated my build thread on this car was about 3 and a half years ago... so I figured I was about due for some updates as things have taken quite a turn.I picked up the M2 over 5 and a half years ago and just passed 55000 miles.

After doing daily driver duty and a track day once in a blue moon, I picked up another daily driver a few years ago and the M2 has become a track/ weekend car. I am currently waiting for the delivery of my new Daily (Order Thread here: https://u11.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2035794) but until then the M2 is seeing some more miles. Or it was... until I blew the turbo a few weeks ago, more on that below.

You can see my last build thread here from a few years ago, with some more history, but below I will post an updated list of mods, as well as some more recent pictures and videos (sorry for the terrible interior shots, I will take more up to date pics soon but this is all I have for now). Most of these will be from tracks in the southeast US where the car sees most of its miles these days. Over the last few years, the M2 has been to Palm Beach International Raceway (RIP), Daytona International Speedway, Sebring International Raceway, Homestead International Speedway, Florida International Rally, and Motorsport Park and Road Atlanta.

Past Build Thread: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1685998

It is worth noting that the car has been incredibly reliable over the last few years and until recently when I upgraded my high-pressure fuel pump, re-tuned to take advantage of that, and then did a track day at Road Atlanta in the scorching summer heat, I have had no real issues at all. This last time, everything ran fine all day until my 4th session in the afternoon where I lost boost which was later determined to be a blown turbo. As a result, upgraded turbo and cooling components are coming soon!

**EDIT: New turbo is in and running strong as of now! 10/3/2023**

Nice build & you will love your X1 M35i soon. You're very brave to have two black cars. Even one black car would drive me OCD through the roof. LOL

Not yet. Dialing in the tune still. But hopefully once that’s all done yes.

Awsome set up, our cars cold be be twins, 😉
I have the same color and almost all the same parts minus the turbo upgrade.
I love our OG M2
I track in Canada and had no cooling issues
Also I’m a big Fan of all the products
from EBC. The blue stuff brake pads
are a great hybrid pad.
I installed front and back floating rotors
and can beat on them all track day.

They could be!

Good to know. Rotors are likely next on my list. The reality is though my brakes have held up quite well thus far on track with original rotors.

Also in my personal experience
My cup 2s didn’t last very long
I track at Mosport Grand Prix track the most
among other tracks, it’s a high speed track
After 60 laps my front sidewall was torn to pieces , I had to finish my session on a second set of rims and tires.
I switched to Bridgestone RE71 s and
after the same amount of laps the side walls held up no problem. The top lap times were
very close going in favour of the RE71s
On this track I would get brake shudder
at the end of the days session
It would eventually go away, it was causeed by the OEM pad deposit on the rotors.
Probably just changing the pads would be enough but I really like the new set up.
Also running upgraded brakes lines
and SRF fluid.
I have camber plates with 2.8 degrees camber up front if I had these on before
the cup 2s would probably be fine.
.

Appreciate all that feedback. I will definitely keep it in. Mind going forward. Always good to hear the experiences of others to help with choosing direction on future mods!
