Picked up my 3rd M2 last week...
Hey all. I previously owned a 17 MG and 17 BSM manual. I'm back to looking for a fun daily to complement the 22 R8, so picked up a 17 BSM DCT.
I've owned 2 of them, so everything feels very familiar. I was hung up on manual, until I drove one again recently. Its engaging but not all that great. I came across a mint 12k mile BSM but DCT, decided I could not pass this car up. It was private party, worked out a great deal. In addition to a $71k sticker it included PPF, brand new rear tires, tinted windows, JB4, Intake, all scheduled maintenance at the local dealer including spark plugs, etc, and a few other goodies. Quick observations: Overall Package: I love the agressive look of the BSM with M Performance bits including winglets, exhaust tips, and rear spoiler. I'll be adding the M Perf diffuser at some point. Its a perfect daily for my needs, and complements the R8 nicely. DCT: I've owned many manual and SMG/DCT M cars. The DCT is very engaging, extracts power nicely. I'm actually quite glad I went DCT this round. MPE: I owned the MPE before. I love the startup up, low speed driving crackles, and high rpm over 4k. But not a fan of the drone zone. You don't get much noise under acceleration like in my R8 or even with my previous Dinan. Its more about the low speed crackling or top end blasts, the mid sounds a bit lacking. I had a Dinan rear + res pipe on my MG, it was fantastic - great a low speeds, nice build up during acceleration and zero drone. I'm going to stick with the MPE for a while before making a switch mostly because its a PIA to swap exhausts plus I like how this car has a ton of M Perf parts on it to stay all M. Immediate Mods: Ordered M Perf steering wheel and DCT kit, blacked badges, and need to update the istep softtware. Disabled ASD of course to get the natual BMW inline 6 sounds. I love the aggressive look. I love all the M Perf bits. I love the inline 6 over 4k rpm with the MPE, vintage BMW M sounding. Thinking about it.... I would love more interior engine sound so considering the Fabspeed sport downpipe with a stage 1 tune or even the Dinan sport tune. That's it for this car but first need to live with it for a few months. I make videos from time to time. I put zero effort into them lol, so don't expect too much

Any particular reason you went pre-LCI?

Nope. I would have preferred LCI, but the priority was the best possible M2 I could get. I can update the software later.

ASD can be disabled via coding (I used BimmerCode), or some folks prefer the Technic PnP ASD bypass harness: https://technicpnp.com/product/asd-bypass-harness/

I disabled via bimmercode. If it was stock, I'd probably leave it. But with MPE there's enough volume to get some good sounds.

Was it ever established which method was best? I thought the harness prevented interference with the amp and made the stereo sound better. Is that not the case?

Very nice example, BSM rocks!
In terms of easy mods I heavily recommend you swapping out your tail lights for the LCI ones, it's very simple and totally changes the rear for the better |

I’m a deeply afflicted car nerd but struggle to appreciate the difference in tail lights when I’m looking at an OG and Comp side by side.

The 2018 LCI OGs have LCD taillights like the M2 Cs.

Yeah, rear tail lights not an area that I'd spend $$ on. I like to keep the car with BMW M or M Perf parts to the model year.
