Right turn signal malfunction

I have had my right turn signal malfunction several times now. Most of the time if you turn on the left turn signal it clears the problem. Yesterday I had to shut off the engine to clear the problem.

You get a turn signal malfunction lite up on the dash and the right signal flashed quickly.

Anyone have an idea what is going on?

I am also wondering if the M2 is keeping the error codes so when I bring it to the dealer they can trouble shoot the problem.

Once the error is cleared on the dash, the signal acts properly for a while.

In my 335 it was a loose or broken bulb

It's new, this is rare so why not take it to the dealer and let them deal with it?

LED tail lights on 2018. Maybe loose. It would be nice to know if the error codes were stored.

I have the exact same issue, odd. Specifically the right side, every time I park and get out to check it's working fine. Code goes away randomly or after I restart the car.

What’s a turn signal?

Maybe your M2 is just trying to help you live up to the bmw driver stereotype...

All jokes aside hopefully you are able to resolve the issue quickly.

Normally this means that your turn signal bulb is defective.

Strange that it's happening on your LCI though...I thought the LED's didn't have warm and cold bulb checks? Guess they do

I would just take it to the dealership and have them sort it out/replace it.

Having the same problems but on the left rear turn indicator. Works now but who knows. Unfortunately with the LCI LED turn indicators... it's no longer replacing a bulb. The car is going in for service in a week. Hopefully they find out what's going on. I'll pass on the info here about a loose ground wire. BMWNA... time to investigate.

My turn signal has worked for the last few weeks. So I am not in a hurry to take it in to the dealer to find what the problem maybe. I know tracing the problem will be hard because the problem is not repeatable.

Same issue here. LCI, right turn signal problem exactly as stated by OP. Since it's sporadic, I'm just going to wait for the next service.

Experienced same issue with right rear turn signal on my 18 LCI. Took it to the dealership and they found some kind of electrical short. They replaced the whole right taillight unit and the issue has not returned in several months.

So the issue is a faulty tail lamp? I haven't noticed any problems but I don't drive the car often and I just rolled over 4K miles. If anyone else can attest to what the solution was I'd appreciate it. I upgraded my rear lamps to the euro versions with amber signals. So if the problem is the NA spec red signal cars I shouldn't have a problem.

I have the same issue that just started in the last few days on my 18 LCI. However I get both left and right malfunction faults.

Mine hasn’t acted up in the last month so I haven’t taken it in to the dealer yet. It will be interesting to find out what is causing these intermittent problems.

I previously reported only my right taillight going off, but lately it's been only my left taillight (maybe 3-4x a week). Quite annoying since it's only right after the car has been started, then goes away after a short while driving.

I'll probably bring it in and have the dealership look at both taillights.

Since the error message keeps appearing on LCI LED vehicle taillights, only after starting, then disappears, it leads to believe that for some strange reason BMW didn't remove the error (Cold) check for the LED taillight turn signals.

If you retrofit the LED LCI tail light on a Pre-LCI and don't remove the error checks, you get the same identical error message, upon start up.

Long story longer, your taillights are just fine, BMW just needs to remove the error check through software/coding..

LED "bulbs" last forever, thus error checks are not required or even technically feasible based on how BMW's CanBus system determines a bulb outage.
Good theory but my problem is not at startup. I can been driving for twenty minutes and get the error message. And usually I get it several times in a row.

Was doing a Eurotrip in Summer with an M2 and an M6, the M2 was an LCI model and it did the same thing. Came back and my M2 did the same thing. Went to the dealership, got a new taillight unit right away under warranty.

The master technician told me its a problem with the car's grounding that would short the taillight. Apparently BMW has been struggling with this since the E46.

Make sense... but it's so odd BMW alone faces this problem out of all the manufactures. Especially if it's been around since the E46.

+1

Also did the LCI tail light retrofit so I'm aware of what it's like back there.

Those exposed harness wires could definitely become loose or get wet and short out. I made sure to tape mine up before reinstalling them to prevent any moisture from getting in.
