The CS cars are good...to a certain price point - but once you get into certain ranges, it's hard to use the M buying formula (bang for your buck, multiple types of utility).

Let's hope BMW learned their lesson with some of these slow F80/82 CS sales, and price the M2 CS in a more appropriate manner...

Unless they can reduce the weight below ~3300 lbs wet and power bumped to around 430 HP, I would pass. The M4 CS weighs the same as a normal M4 w/ Competition package (3483 lbs), so wouldn’t be suprised if the M2 CS comes with minimal weight reduction besides the CF roof and CCBs.

For $85k-$90k USD, that’s 718 GT4 money. Plus, this model is rumored to arrive in 2020, which is disappointing for buyers who are ready to buy one now. BMW should offer all trims to consumers when a new platform is announced, similar to Porsche.

Too much cash is chasing too few avenues for return and it's all blown out. Enjoy it while it lasts...it won't.
Catch my drift:
  • M4 GTS production = 803 units worldwide (see here);
  • 1M production = 6309 units worldwide of which 761 units produced for the US (usually a 740 sold cars figure is mentioned) (see here and here).
OK, cars with a substantially different price tag. But despite its limited production, if you do some homework, it ain't very hard to get your hands on an M4 GTS. Last time I visited my dealership there's a brand new one at MSRP still taking dust in the showroom since several years.

The 1M is a great pocket rocket. "Basically a truncated [E92] M3 Competition Package with a manual" dixit former BMW M boss Dr. Kay Segler. Affordable, at-arms-length, for a lot of car enthusiasts' budgets. But also not cheap for a 1-Series BMW car. I owned a new one for 66K kms and can genuinely go on record to state that it's worth its salt. This Summer a British car enthusiast vlogger drove a 1M for the first time ever: his hands-on impressions did not surprise me at all (see the video here).

M4 GTS: check what competing brands have on offer for the solid price-tag, it got some peculiar quirky design elements (oversized front lip, big wing and orange accents), there is the horsing around with bottles of distilled water to regularly refill the water injection tank and, last but not least, it got a spiky, squirrelly road behavior reputation (especially being a handful in the rain). Dubbing the orange details 'Acid Orange Accents' almost seems to be a pars pro toto: acids usually taste sour.

Its either the M4 or The M8 that will introduce the first modern CSL.
Tell them to put a 6MT in the CS will you

Yeah, I don't worry to much about the 1M vs M2 look....they are both cool in there own way.

I tend to like the older BMW's and so I feel the 1M captures the history and character without so many hard lines and angles that the M2 has.

Personal preference I guess

With respect to twitchy and jumpy....well, yeah....you need to know how to drive and reign her in....she's kinda a wild child in that respect. That is the rawness and truth of the car! Its what makes it special and engaging in my opinion.

Less is more in my opinion and that's the sweet spot the 1M sits in. Look at reviews and you will find that is the common element.

There is a reason why they are selling for more now then when they were new....mileage, condition into consideration please.
Totally agree with you that the 1M is special, very special.

I don't want to let mine go but can't afford to keep too many cars

The 1M looks more aggressive when comparing side by side. I also like the lines of the 1M better than the M2. The front fenders is a non contest. The M2 front fenders look flat in comparison to the 1M's flared front. The rear view of the 1M looks very distinctive as well.

After getting back into the 1M after driving a GT4, the feeling I got was...so glad to be back The torque, the playfulness of the chassis, the versatility all hold me back from craving for anything else for fun and DD. It has it all.

My guess would be M8, then M4.

For a track car, you'll go broke running carbon brakes. $600 pad replacements after about 3 track days, not to mention $12k rotor replacements after about 8. Here's the bimmerpost member who's done it:

What a load of S**t.
I've been tracking my car since I bought it in 2015... I've just replaced a set of front pads in about 50 track days and 40,000 plus km. Yes, they cost a pretty penny, but worth every one of them.

+1

I said the same thing in a different thread - there's no way the M2 is getting the S58 before the M3/4.
the X3m and x4m are right? and those are not as iconic to M as the M3.

They are - and your point is a valid one, but the X3/4Ms are being introduced as brand new cars, so I can see the logic in debuting the S58 there.

BMW will also likely use the X3/4M launch to make sure they get the S58 “right” for the M3/4. Just my $.02 anyway.

Why are you so angry? If you're disputing the cost, then tell me what your cost is. If you're disputing wear rates, then the link I provides is what I had to go by. I didn't make shit up, I just cited what others have experienced. Was that so wrong? Man I didn't know I had to talk to the guru of CCB track experiences Ragged Edge to have him opine first! If you're so inclined to share your exact experience, you have that thread where you can dump you wealth of knowledge and experience.

All I know is, Evan is on his 3rd set of CCBs already. Did you know that? Hmm...maybe you should talk to someone who actually tracks it more than you (or at least drives it harder than you), before you start imparting your experience as the official gospel.

I don’t think the M4 CS or GTS were available for Euro Delivery. Don’t plan on it.

M3CS, M4CS and M4GTS are all great cars but the price point is too high. That's why they haven't sold. The majority of the negative reviews of the M4GTS would have disappeared if it hadn't been priced close to a GT3 (and 40K more than a GT4).

The other issue is that there are MANY enthusiasts who would buy these cars if they came with a proper 6MT transmission. There is so much demand for a good manual tranny that Porsche brought it back in the GT3. I wish BMW understood this.

As for the M2 CSL, I'm all for it. I've been first on the list now for two years, as soon as the rumor first started. But the question is will how limited it will be. And if it will be numbered. I fear many folks in this thread are excited for a car they will never even see, let alone have a real chance of buying.
