Votre pays est très beau, et je suis jaloux!

Mine should be here in another week or two, but I don't have any breathtaking views like that to enjoy...

I'm an IT guy by trade and tech nerd by choice.
I like HPDEs, parts of US Hwy 129, NC 28, and the Cherohala Skyway.
I'm also a fan of aural pleasure.

Thanks for the pics & story Corrine - great stuff!

A bit off topic - I cannot assign Sport Displays to a memory button in my LCI. When I try, it says "Unable to Save". It worked in my 2016 M235i - seems this must be a 2018 LCI "feature". I can store other functions, but no Sport Displays.

Any other LCIers able to get this to work?

Works fine for my LCI. On the menu where you can bring up the sports display and efficiency one, highlights sports (but don't enter it) and long press whatever number. Pressing that number will open sports display

Woke up this morning, read this incredible post, turned to my wife and said, "I would leave you for her". To which my wife replied "you could not keep up with her"

Best post ever on this forum. Thank you Corinne!

That was the trick - assign when you've selected - but not executed - the command you want to save. Thanks!

Oh really ? I'd understood, from reading the knowledgeable posts of M2 owners that the loudest noise was obtained in traction mode. I'm not going to trust by skills in Sports+ but will drive in Sport. So the noise will be louder in Sport then ?
I never tilt the base of seats because it results in backache !
Don't need the locked steering wheel to help me get out I'm old, but not THAT old and can still get out of an Elise with the roof on without trouble !
Thanks for the other tips though ! I'm part of the "When all else fails, read the instructions" school so your comments are very useful !

Ha ha ha ! I had a good laugh over that, despite it being a monday morning ! I'm sure you'd qualify if you can climb between 2,000 and 10,000 vertical metres in a week

Corinne, thanks for sharing your delivery experience and the many locale pictures. It is wonderfully written with cute humor and beautiful pictures that are a feast to my eyes and mind. I really enjoyed reading it and chuckled through out, especially the part about the Lotus Elise being a "big expensive car."

Congratulation! I look forward to my own M2 delivery in about a month.

TRACTION mode (one touch of the DSC OFF button) will only give you the loudest burbles when cruising at slow speed. But beware Corinne: by activating TRACTION mode you de-activate safety nannies ! Its purpose: it's a kind of emergency assistance to get you out of snow, ice, mud or dunes (instructions manual: "When TRACTION is active, the vehicle has maximum traction on loose road surfaces"). When all safety nannies remain active (COMFORT mode and SPORT mode), those would permanently cut power to your wheels because those wheels keep slipping through, making it difficult and frustrating to get you out of a slippery surface. As the name says, TRACTION mode will give you traction under those slippery road conditions. Once you get away, activate the safety nannies again (COMFORT mode or SPORT mode). If you want TRACTION mode just to get fun sounds (burbles), only activate that mode when cruising at low speed.

If keeping all safety nannies active matters for you (assisting you to keep the 370hp [± 385hp in reality] under control) and you want fancy sounds and better throttle response, then SPORT mode is definitely the way to go for your M2; it offers the best compromise (safety + music):
  • 100% safety nannies active (alike COMFORT mode = all nannies active | SPORT+ mode = you send some nannies away | DSC OFF = you send all nannies away so you're totally on your own);
  • SPORT mode gets you improved throttle response compared to (lazy) COMFORT mode or TRACTION mode;
  • SPORT mode gets you more burbles than COMFORT mode (though not as loud as TRACTION mode), especially when giving brief gentle pushes to the throttle when cruising around; try it out: when cruising through narrow streets in town at, say 30 km/h, zap a few times between both the DSC OFF (TRACTION) button and SPORT button to hear the difference whenever you give a gentle push to the throttle to hear the difference in burbles loudness (as both buttons are right next to each other, you don't even need to look when zapping - rather watch the faces of people around you );
  • sounds: SPORT mode gets you those hallmark sweet 'overrun' rattle sounds each time you abruptly release the throttle when accelerating (you don't get those in COMFORT mode or TRACTION mode); Megabyte might bark too; if someone says "sounds like M3/M4 farts !", then answer "no, this is farting in style !" ; and if you're a bad girl, feel free to abruptly release the throttle during hard acceleration right at the moment that the rear part of your M2 passes a car with an open window...
Personally I always drive in SPORT mode. SPORT+ or DSC OFF could be tempting, but one momentary lapse of reason, attention and/or self-restraint could end in costs, pain or worse. I don't mind safety nannies intervening during spirited mountain driving. The safety technology reacts faster before than the human brain can realize. Coming out of a hairpin: as soon as the car is almost aligned, just pedal the metal and wait for the engine to give you all power available.

What about fuel consumption COMFORT mode versus SPORT mode: will remain virtually the same (minor difference), but as those overrun sounds will be music to your ears, you may adapt your driving style in a more 'fuel consumption driving' fashion.

When firing up the engine: deactivate the Auto Start/Stop function (button above the START/STOP button; amber light = inactive), push the SPORT mode button, activate High Beam Assist (lower button on the blinkers stalk; but won't do anything if the headlights ain't automatically activated), if need be, also activate the rain sensor and seat heating (steering wheel heating: won't work with the M Performance steering wheel as it's not heat-wired).

The "Lane Depature Warning" + "Collision Warning" buttons near your left knee: green lights on = active. Car memory: once you made a choice, it will stay that way next time you start the engine.

I see we think the same way Artemis ! Thanks - that description is crystal clear ! In fact I suspect that, above a certain speed, Traction mode is automatically disabled because it did this several times when I was driving. Actually all this is probably unnecessary when I get my Fabspeed sports cat and muffler bypass installed !!! There will be a god-forsaken racket 100 % of the time

And don't forget that you got yourself a tailor-made storage tray for 3 × 33cl cans in your car.

No jangling and more stable through the twisties than you might think.

For those interested here's a short drone video about the lake of Annecy in case you're wondering where to go for your holidays:
