The seller may also claim that he's a genuine petrolhead and no coin flipper. But...

Are you trying to give me a heart attack from laughing too much?

Then my son will sell the car and be labelled a coin-flipper lmao

(Looking at what's been happening with Xbox's/PS5's/and graphic cards for the last 6 months is a great example, albeit at a different price point.)

That being said, the practice in general annoys the hell out of me. As you said, if you're an enthusiast late to the party or someone who's genuinely going to enjoy this car, maybe in 2-3 months from now when the new inventory is gone, it prices the car out for many who would have bought it at the 85-95 sticker.

I know the pain very well, I've been trying to get my hands on a bottle of Pappy for over half a decade now and refuse to pay the $2-3k markup!!
I was curious for the conversation generally, and while it didn't go the way direction I expected, it certainly didn't disappoint! Artemis's humor certainly added.

I didn't take that you were being negative, nothing seemed disrespectful or anything. The use of the term scalper in the title added a negative connotation, but that's minor and true!

Will be interesting to watch the market and sales with time either way!

Are they advertising to the Chinese Market / Dubai? Surely no one in the US will pay those prices but I believe the US did have a low msrp.

A part of me thinks it's great to see the inflated used car prices already. If you really want it you'd consider it. Still feels premature when they're a few dozen on the lot unaccounted for.

Imagine what the used market looks like then they're all sold out?

Not the same but it's kinda like you trying to buy an Xbox Series X or PS5 today... they're out there if you want it, but you won't like the price. Nonetheless theres an enthusiast out there who will pay.

In Australia, when the M2CS price was announced (fr $139,990), the conversion rate was USD$0.71 to one Australian dollar making it close to USD$100K.

NOTE: now the dollar has risen to almost 78 cents US, but we're still having to pay a base price of $140K which is not fair given the dealers get invoiced upon delivery on that month's exchange rate but the buyer is locked into an old rate.

So I agree with you, it's always cheaper to buy a car in the US.

The market always decides. I guess I'm in the minority here, but I don't care how much others ask for their cars. Nor do I care how much others pay when they acquire new items. I couldn't imagine getting bothered or upset by someone else asking for a markup when selling a car. If I don't like the price, I simply pass and move on. No biggie.

That's very well said.

I agree, you want it, you buy it. You don't want it, you don't.

Besides, everyone has an equal chance of securing one right at the beginning. Those who wait, do so knowing it could go either way and that's the risk, you may save, or you may have to pay even more.

Nobody forced me to put my hand up early, or those who waited, late.

Just like any transaction - you can ask whatever you want for an item, but it doesn't mean it will sell for that. You need to look at sold prices to determine the market.

Feel like this will follow the trend of the M4 CS cars which sat on dealer lots forever and then eventually dealers were forced to offer massive massive discounts

Why do you think that? I am genuinely curious as the logic or what you see that leads you to that conclusion.

We've heard that opinion put forward quite a few times over the last year plus, but at this point and there was good reason for it based on past history and what was going on with the CS in parts of Europe. However, now the US market isn't showing much that supports that view. At most there are 90 cars left in the entire US, and it is believed there aren't even that many (See the great work GimmeanM has done, we can see what has sold already and what hasn't), and they haven't even all made it to the showrooms yet. There has been no advertising, magazine reviews, or anything for the general public to hear about the car or its quality.

So the fact that only about 25% of dealers even have a car left, if that, while they are still on boats does not scream "these are going to sit and get discounted".

I have no basis for it. Completely possible that it's nonsense. But like I said it's just a gut feeling that I have

Without rehashing what's already been talked about in multiple threads re: this comparison, 3 main reasons why that won't be true:
1. MT
2. Production volumes vastly different
3. Price range (84-96k) vs (103k-127k)

That's not to say some dealers won't have to offer a discount to sell their inventory, it's just never going to be the 20%+ discounts we see on M4 CS'.

Then again, if the market proves me wrong, I will drown my sorrow in a beer.

I'll wipe out my sorrows with time behind the wheel of the CS based on how much fun I've already had driving it.

On the opposite side of this thread, anyone know anyone selling M2CS for under-MSRP? hahah

I think I would trade my 2017 PE in and jump on one selling for $10k off MSRP

As of now all dealers are selling at MSRP or over MSRP in California. Best to try contacting dealers on the east coast and see if you can haggle them into dropping the price.

These are for new cars, there are only 1, maybe 2 used CS that I have seen so far listed below MSRP

That's a big ask. If you said I'll take anything at 5% off or something like that you could probably find it.

But a low volume combination and that high of a discount . I don't know. Seems a little early for that. Reach out to that Texas store that has the car you want .
