Comfortable Coil Over Kit?
I have a 2019 M2C and have now taken a job that requires a much longer drive that my prior job. I'm considering changing my car, but there's not much out there that actually excites me (I drove the M440 and felt it tried to do both the comfortable cruiser and the sporty thing and failed at both— very meh for $65k and not for me). So, then I thought to just mod my M2C to my liking eg add a quality coil over suspension kit that can be more compliant on streets and still maintain the sportiness inherent to the M2C. Does anyone have any recs from personal experience? I originally thought Ohlins, then spoke to ECS Tuning and they're like nah Ohlins is a bad idea, if you want more comfort go w Bilstein B16. Of course there are owners on both sides of the isle for these coil overs some saying they're more comfortable than stock and some saying less so, but I've not heard from anyone comparing to an M2C. Would appreciate any suggestions!

I have no experience with any of these systems. However, as someone who has read a lot of threads here, I would look at TC Kline's setups based on feedback and reputation for comfort on other M platforms.

Yeah, I have no affiliation with them, but their philosophy seems to lean toward the softer side. I've come across the same conflicting reports on comfort with most other systems. Clearly, the TCK setup with Koni dampers is not JRZ or Moton hardware, but that might be a good thing for the street.

I'm in the same boat. Was leaning towards the M-Performance coilovers, but hadn't even thought of the TC Kline's.
Now, I need to do more research! |

M Perf are definitely a safe option. I have seen a post mentioning noise with the double adjustable fronts from TCK, so the single adjustable may be the way to go depending on your needs. I haven't seen a lot of people with the TCK kits on the F87 though...

Looking at pictures, it sure looks like the front spring is a lot thinner than the MP's-- which would give me clearance to avoid using 5mm front spacers. Lots to research! |

I've researched this so much already. Problem is, as close as I feel I've come to finding "the one," I then manage to always find some rando out there posting a credible review stating the opposite of everyone else, which then sets me back to square-one. Ultimately, the difficulty comes down to not being able to try before you buy. So, you gotta commit to a ~$2500-3000 item plus ~$550 installation and if it blows, then another ~$550 to replace the OEM suspension and then trying to sell the used coil overs at probably ~$1000 loss. So, it's not exactly a risk free endeavor. For this reason, given my proximity to TC Kline, if he'll let me try a demo car, that'd make all the difference to me and I'd go with that product, even if it's not universally "the best." Anecdotally, about a year ago I called Rogue Engineering to ask about their monoball kit and ended up having a really long conversation about suspensions. When I told him I'm from OH, he's like oh wow you have one of the greatest suspension tuners right in your back yard! I'm like really, who's that?... TC Kline.

Ohlins R&T is my go-to for a 'comfortable' street oriented kit. It has lower spring rates than most options which yields good street manners. Ohlins quality is fantastic. Much better than many of the kits discussed above.

I was hoping to drive a car at TC Kline to try before I buy (I'm relatively local). He just told me that he sold his M2C and so that's not at option. I was willing to just go w TCK bc of the potential luxury of trying them out first, but looks like I'm back to square one. 🤷*♂️

I'll second that. I bought Ohlins and they were really firm. Hated it. Took it to him for new springs and setup. Wayyyy better and handles better too. Also a super nice guy who nearly always answers the phone personally.

I thought this too but my experience has been poor. I bought mine slightly used (2k miles) and found spring rate way too high. As I understand, their new kit fixes that as well as the loud clunking on harsh/sudden bumps. Also not responsive. YMMV

KW should be pretty comfortable too. Front spring rate is 226lbs/in, rear is 685lbs/in, which produces "flat ride" frequencies.
