CS PPF Poll
I know the PPF thing has been beaten to death, but the CS is a limited production model that may or may not hold its value well. Some of us plan to "baby" this a little more like a garage queen, daily driver it or track it.
I'm really exhausted with all the PPF options and if it is really necessary in my case. Mileage per year maybe 2500. It will sit in the garage under an M Perf Indoor Cover. I thought it would be beneficial to create a poll with options for everyone. Waxes, coatings and sealants not included. |

I forgot to take into account geographic location. I live in an exburb in South Florida. When I lived in Austin, cars and their windshields would take a beating with rock chips. I'd imagine more rocky terrain areas like TX, AZ (Southwest) are more prone?

I will garage queen/track mine (wasn't an option ). I just redid the paint on my M3 that has 173,000 miles on it. The front bumper, hood, edges of front fenders, A-Pillars, mirrors, and roof were pretty banged up, the rest of it was essentially fine except for scratches from incidental type things from its long life. So That's the route I've decided to go on the M2 is to protect those high wear areas. My F30 with 60K miles has essentially the same wear patterns with bumper by far the worst, hood second, mirrors 3rd, a-pillars fourth, and roof fifth.

Mostly DD, and hoping to see the track a couple times a year realistically. I'm getting the full front and rockers. I still think it's overkill. My guess is bumper and rockers would have been sufficient.
The sticky cup2 tires edged me to get the full front since they may sling a few more stones. |

Half Queen actually 😁....won’t see winter so she’ll only be on the road probably 6 out of 12 months. Having always had black cars and didn’t protect them much and suffering the consequences, I just wanted to keep this car as pristine as I could, hence full PPF.

I went with a slightly more economy shop, and tore down the whole car myself, pulling all the trim, door panels, pulled off bumpers etc. That saves a TON on labor and assembly. So they just had to do finish and respray. That said it worked out to somewhere around 7K to respray the majority of the car. Front bumper and grill surround had been done recent enough to not need a redo, trunk lid was in good enough shape to skip, side skirts I skipped for cost, and they ended up doing the rear fenders for free because they enjoyed the project. So... Figure if you do the whole thing it would have been probably over 9k, and I had a quote from another shop that was a bit higher end to do about half the car for 7k alone.

Garage Queen: Full Front (Bumper, Fenders, Hood, Mirrors, etc)
+ ceramic coat body, wheels, calipers Will put less than 7,000 mi per year on her but she'll be well protected. |

My cs will be a tucked in the garage save for the fair weather weekender / track outings.
I plan to go for the full ppf burial. Have had that done on a previous car and happy with my installer and results. I do think you've left out an option. Auto flex dip. And I wonder what my compatriot here in Oregon, M2PDX has planed for his.. https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=23649562 |

Usually I'd just drive it around everywhere to hit break-in but this is an odd year for sure. Might take a while especially since I'm in the Northeast and will get take delivery of the car in the dead of winter.

Not into the stuff and never have been. I'd rather have chips than all the cut lines and peel back and dirt in and under the seems plus all the variations in the finish after it's pulled and stretched during application.
I will use it judiciously in high impact areas like the rock spray areas behind the tires |

I would categorize that under "Full Car". The concept of my poll (coatings/sealants aside) was to grasp the amount of car that will be "protected" with a type of film with respect to how the car will be used. I'm glad everyone responded. It better helped me (and I hope others) make the call that were on the fence. Being a babied garage queen, I am leaning toward going au naturel. |

Anyone get xpel done through dealership? Curious if there is a cost savings? I noticed it was an option, but did not inquire because I already have something planned.

My M235i had chips all over the hood and front bumper after 3 years and 28k miles. My M2C has PPF on the front bumper, hood, front fenders, rocker panels, mirrors and rear bumper. So after 28 months and 19k miles there are no chips on the hood. The front bumper takes a beating so there are a few rocks that have perferated the PPF. The rear bumper PPF totally saved it from a respray when some idiot bounced off of the bumper 3 times when parallel parking. It tore up the PPF but after a rewrap the bumper was like new again.
I think PPF is worth it if you want your car to look nice. |
