Bimmertech sells an mmi system that will take over the entire idrive display to allow for android auto, there are also replacement idrive displays that run a reskinned android os that allows it to look like idrive and be able to run android auto. But there are no natively support android auto solutions for the m2.

the version they sell doesn't support 2017+ models with an EVO unit, only the older NBT systems. Other sellers (on Aliexpress, eg) have never versions and claim to support EVO units, as well as offer wireless AA. I have one of these on the way, and will report once I've received/tested it

These seem overkill for adding Android Auto support, especially since they don't natively support it. You have to either add a USB dongle, or use an app like Headunit Reloaded. And even then, it's wired only, not wireless (HR does support wireless AA, but it's still buggy).

I didn't know the bimmertech wasn't for the Evo units. But yes there are no good like stock apple car play solutions for Android auto. It's unfortunate for us android users but what can you do.

I ordered one of those a while back but was never able to get it to fit, did you have any luck?

Received my AA/Carplay unit today, definitely appears to support NBT EVO units, will post back once I've got everything tested (likely tomorrow). This is an updated version of the same type of unit Bimmertech sells, not the full replacement (which seemed to have no advantages and lacks wireless AA)

Thanks

Yes, where? I can't wait to hear the results. I'm a buyer immediately if it works.

Here's something I posted a few weeks ago in another thread about bimmertech's solution,

"I emailed bimmertech yesterday and they said they don't know when, if ever, they'll have a module for my car. They said BMW changed hardware.

Makes me wonder what hardware we have if we're still idrive 6, and if it's compatible with an idrive 7 hack of some sort."

+1

If it can split screen and is a good solution I am defintely in.

It kind of looks like those aliexpress units. But I am terrified of cheap chinese hardware because it can short out a super expensive bmw.

ordered 7/13, arrived 7/20, not bad at all.

just watched an install vid, looks like removing the glovebox is a real chore. What is it with German marques and overly complicated gloveboxes?

edit: I confirmed with the seller before placing my order that this unit offered **wireless** AA, but documentation for it indicates only offers wired. Maybe I do want to give that 10.25" Android unit another look since it would add touchscreen functionality at least for AA. decisions decisions

so finally got around to installing this today, and unfortunately not getting any video output when switching to MMI mode (iDrive passthru works fine). Double checked all switches, connections, etc. Have reached out to seller and waiting on reply.

Ah I see.

Is there any split screen functionality with Android auto on one half and idrive on the other?

don't believe so, since there isn't for CarPlay AIUI. But can't say for sure without the box actually showing something on the screen =P

seller (Carlinkit) is going to send me an update for the box, will see if that resolves the issue.

If not, I'll return it and get one of the AVIN USA Android head units. A 720p touchscreen would be a nice upgrade anyway.

You guys are behind the times here!

Split screen is not a thing, and I'm not sure if even the android headunits can do it, just by the way everything is setup.

Wireless AA works on the unit below, I use it daily.

If I could I would def just spend the extra and get a touchscreen android unit for $500 and call it a day. The twisty knob gets old fast and AA doesnt have all the features a tablet setup on your dash does. Like play movies and better app features, plus you can either hot spot or put in a data sim and you're good to go for tablet mode.

This the top rated one amongst after market people that have tried.

There is an Android app which lets you connect your phone with iDrive to control apps (e.g. Spotify) through iDrive. So you can listen to Spotify in your car without touching your phone.

It's called AndroidAutoIdrive:
https://github.com/hufman/AndroidAutoIdrive

You can download the current release here:
https://github.com/hufman/AndroidAut...ases/tag/1.2.1
Choose the "androidautoidrive-1.2.1-nomap-nonalytics-release.apk" variant.

I use it for example in combination with Poweramp and internet radio. So this let's me listen to internet radio stations in my F82.

Google Maps is also supported but you have to do some things on your own to get it running.

You can find a list of all supported apps and features here: https://github.com/hufman/AndroidAut...ented-features

I'll start digging based on what you posted, but do you, by chance, know which unit I would need for my 2020 M2C?

Thanks!

There is currently no tech for idrive 6 due to different protocols. Its best to just buy the android headunit ( although I dont know if youre able to), I'm surprised they didnt put id7 in the 2020 M2
