Dedicated thread in the 1M section: see here.

VIN: WBSUR9C59BVP76368

See also here: a forum member (1M section) bought the movie car.

By the way, The movie people wanted it to look macho, so they cut the wires to the drivers seat belt so it wouldn't beep. They had to replace the whole device after they returned the car, $567.00. I thought this was relevant here even though the OP said not including dealers. This dealership here in NJ is asking $20k over the $84K msrp.

I bet someone buys it. The hype train will build. Someone will want one in a collection, and for some, the extra $20k is chump change.

This. And that could be good for us. I know a lot of "car guys" that are extremely wealthy, but don't bother with forums and all that nonsense. They will open up an article in their automotive magazine of choice or see a promoted video review on YouTube, and think I want that.

They don't care about discounts or whatever, they get what they want.

Just wait until the CS review shows up on MotorWeek TV

I removed the seller details from the pictures and comments. They don't deserve publicity.

I went out to look at this car before I bought mine, applied for financing, and dealer told me at the last minute they wanted 20k over. I actually reported them to BMW corporate over shady business practices.

They told me before I went to look at it that it was MSRP.

That is a terrible experience. Good job reporting them.

IMO, in that market they could easily get that mark-up for it given the low numbers.

Honestly, this car is far more deserving of a mark-up compared to a C8 Corvette, etc.

That being said, it's pretty insane they are charging that mark-up for a car that seems to have now been test-driven numerous times..

$25K markup ?

Look, the M2 CS is a great car, but it's not worth any mark-up.

Don't get baited by marketing 101 tricks.

I'm not saying it's worth the mark up.

I'm saying that some idiot with more money than sense will more than likely pay the markup on such a limited car available in CA because they want it now.

I am surprised BMW didn't mandate to dealers that this car couldn't be marked up.

Hey, markups are markups. I just called around to put a GT4 RS or GT3 Touring deposit down, and was told it would be about a 20k-30k markup for either.

Not to go off topic, but in some cases it can be worth it. Still hard to find a GT3 Touring used now for under 210k.

True, to each his own when evaluating a dealer markup. My intent was to capture individuals flipping these cars (granted with new inventory still available, that's a fine line at the moment).

Interestingly, seems like the first car from my OP is sold. Guess we'll never know if they sold it for the 113k asking price or lower.

Likely because it has been titled to an individual, and is no longer on its MSO (manufacturers statement of origin). Therefore it is a "used car", mileage is irrelevant.

Is that to get around some BMW NA regulations?

I said it before and I'll say it again:

In other words: the M2 CS will definitely remain highly regarded among petrolheads, but will not be considered worth the MSRP. A greatly estimated ("halo"), but clearly overpriced ("hell no"), car. Let's keep that distinction in mind to better understand most controversy about the M2 CS.

Buying the M2 CS at MSRP or - even worse - with a markup, is essentially an emotional driven choice mainly devoid of monetary considerations: "I want this. Period.". Desire as a sylph figured creature playing the heart strings one by one.

So don't worry, if you lust for an M2 CS but you refuse to play the immodest price-tag game, you will find one with a more modest price-tag in the future. Rather say "See you later" than "Goodbye".

Sure, I wouldn't leave a $5k tip at a restaurant to throw money away, but you have adequate capacity or you weren't going to buy a $100k car. Plus or minus $5k is largely irrelevant to the buying decision. So, if you're in the market to buy one, don't sweat the details and enjoy it!
I'm more focused on squeezing money out of my trade, then haggling for a discount on the new car.
IMHO that's a flawed reasoning.

It's about 'over-overpriced' versus 'already questionably steep'. Why ? Because it's about the value of the goods put up for sale, with MSRP as the semi-objective highest reference point for all cars involved (say, the tipping point of 'enough') and not about the financial resources/capacity of a customer.

It's about the real estate sales pitch: "You're a billionaire, so hey, what's a couple of million more to line my pockets for this beautiful house ?". It's about walking into a bar and hearing: "A markup for your beer, you rich-a$$ buddy, because you can swing it" and subsequently getting blamed for being greedy because, as a matter of principle, you refuse to order and leave.

Bottom-line: do not shift the greed blame to the buyer. It's the seller who's scrupulously greedy here when selling an M2 CS over sticker, not the (wealthy) buyer who refuses to play that rip-off game imposed by the sharks (cf. 'stealerships'). And please don't start me about supply & demand about a commodity when making the financial position of a customer part of the equation.

To each his own, but IMHO it's about the decency of valuing good manners. Regardless whether it's house, a car, a kitchen or even a coffee or a simple pair of socks.
