Unhappy Low pitch whistle noise between 70-80mph on M2 Comp?

Hi all, just purchased a M2 Competition, 20 plate and absolutely love it except for a curious low pitch whistle noise it makes, which is most noticeable between 70 and 80mph and sometimes at lower speeds. Car has only done 2,600 miles so it I took it into my local dealer who could replicate the noise. They investigated it and drove an identical M2 Comp and said it was related to the transmission and a characteristic of the car? anyone else hear this?? you can just about here it in this video:http://youtu.be/exYRLStCcbY
Any help or advice greatly appreciated

Just listened to the video, i've never heard that noise coming from my car. Is yours a DCT? Mine is a manual so maybe the transmission has something to do with it.

It's hard to tell from your video, but it's probably differential whine. Since M cars use rigid mounts for the rear subframe, you tend to get a little bit more noise transmitted from the driveline. You may notice the noise changes with throttle application.

My previous 2018 M2 didn't make this noise but my M2C (both DCT) does and it's only audible with radio off. Lots of variables could be the reason why one diff is louder than another, but how the wearing in of the ring and pinion happened can be part of it. My M2C was broken in a little harder than my previous car—I'm at approximately the same mileage and my noise is similar at those speeds.

Thanks....

thanks all, yes it's a DCT so I am guessing that may have something to do with in and it was an ex demonstrator with 2,000 miles when i got it.... just weird that it is more noticeable at 70-80 mph..

Hmmm, I actually noticed something similar. I tried to replicate at lower speed and same RPMs, but only noticed it at those speeds just like you did. Very strange! I thought it was wind noise from the car.

I've noticed with the windows down that I get a bit of a whistling noise from each of my mirrors. Keep meaning to look into it further but always forget. Cant hear it with the windows up

Thanks all. Bit of an update , When I am doing 70-80mph and I knock it into neutral the noise stops straight away which confirms the dealership's theory that's connected to the transmission I guess. Just seems very strange that it is most apparent at between 70-80mph?. I did also try to contact BMW Uk to ask their opinion and if they could refer it on to someone in the technical department just to confirm if it is a characteristic or not, but having very little joy with them!.

Sounds like wind noise to me to be honest, and not mechanical.

Thanks very much.

It goes away if im putting into „N“ while driving the Speed. My friend doesnt have the noise..

i have very mild noise in mine. its the diff/dct.

my f80 didn't but it was a 6spd and probably had more sound insulation around the center tunnel
