Fix rim damage

Hi,

Last week i have damaged my rim. I asked a dealer for a quote to fix it, but they say it's not fixable because of the smoke paint on the rim. Do you guys know if there is some other fix? Maybe a spray to hide it a bit more?

Thank you!

I'm surprised how no one wants to touch these wheel. It's not like they haven't been out for a while before the M2.

Totally fixable. In Los Angeles where I live, there are numerous auto repair shops that specialize in such repairs. Yours is not even past the polished section. If the shop does not have the exact color in stock they will mix some up. That wheel has very minor damage it would only cost $100 to $150 here to fix it. Find a good automotive repair/paint shop in a large city near you to do it. You'll never even know it was there.

It's weird yes... There is a shop in Netherlands that says there are able to fix it but ask around €360 for one rim....

Probably should take a vacation to Los Angeles haha..

That scuff is so minor your best course of action is to just live with it and forget it - if you can! Hey, now you don't have to worry about curbing your rims any more. (Trying to cheer you up.)

Agreed. There are mobile wheel repair, powder coating and wheel facilities all over LA and OC. That does not help the OP in Netherlands but the damage is so minimal, some prep and clear coat might be all you need.

I've had a lot worse and regretted not getting the wheels refaced since my wheels were far more severe. I cringed every time I got new tires because I risked paint cracking. I had 3 stage paint (gunmetal) on CSL CS7's and the repair looked good till I rashed them again or needed tires. I would have powder coated, again 3 stage.

If I rash my M2 wheels, I might mix up the color scheme, keep the black but go black chrome on the faces. I'll consider myself luck till that day comes and remain positive.

Good luck with the repair.

Hard to fix because of the tint of the gray part. You can try but it may not match 100%

My counsel would be to find a pro paint supply shop. The body shops use them all the time. They usually have a hand held unit, like a spectrometer, that takes a "pic" of the paint. That code is found on their computer in their shop to either a paint already matching...might be any car....or they will mix a spray can for you, probably 20-25$
Clean, scuff the area with a very fine wet/dry paper, mask the tire off, cover with news print, and then lightly spray the scuffed area. Built some light layers, let dry and then use some verrry fine steel wool to blend and hit again for top layer. One can always use a clear top coat in spray form, usually from same shop, and voila. You can tell it, if you take your time. Recco: you remove wheel and place on flat surface, or vertical braced firmly on a table. Allow some cure time before subjecting to moisture or rain. BUT it will solve your angst on the wheel and looks great.

Difficult choice... There is company near that says it it's fixable but i don't know if it will 100% recovered and they ask €360..

Thinking about to let it go and have peace with it...

there are plenty of mobile repair shops here in Los Angeles...
My friend's curbed one of his wheels (M2), and he was able to find someone to fix for him for $100.
It is not going to be perfect, but you can hardly notice that it's ever happened before!
Trust me, don't waste your money (to buy a new rim, send it to dealership or bodyshop for repair), a mobile repair shop can do the work.

Lol, good one.

I curbed a front wheel this morning. It was at a repair shop within an hour. Gonna try to fix it. If not then i can kiss $800 goodbye.

I did the same thing last week. Got forced to the curb by a beige Camry crossing into my lane for no reason. Both front and rear.

Trying to see what's the cost to at least fix it so it's not noticeable.

It had to be a Camry...

The other option is to find someone who will shave off the tinted clear coat off all the wheels, fix the damage and re clear coat all wheels to match. My guy still recommend against it b/c he hasn't successfully matched the tint in the past.

Not sure why it's so hard...I mean House of Colors has so many options including the mentioned black chrome. My only guess is b/c the are wheel repair guys not paint experts.

I had a friend who's a mechanic take care of the entire process for me. Not sure where he outsourced the labor. It was $275 for the entire job (repair, tire removal, remounting etc.)

My understanding is that some places don't want to touch these wheels as the silver portion is not painted and cleared (like the black part) but rather diamond cut metal.

Source?

Using diamonds to cut aluminum is like cutting bread with a chainsaw...
