Go with V2, it fits. No reason to go V1, I don’t even know why the sell it.

Somebody just hit me with rep on this thread

I will simply say this was one of my favorite modifications to my OG

Really opens up the engine in the higher RPM and helps it pull strongly all the way to redline

It's an incredible mod IMO. Amazing what BMW left on the table. Considering how highly strung they kept saying the whole setup was with the N55 in the OG.

Clearly this was an area of restriction they were well aware of as well as the standard issue intercooler

I'd consider them both must have items

If using the v2 with standard turbo does it leave a step on the inlet , as they are both different diameters?

They're close to the same at the interface of the turbo

Nice discussion. Sounds like it improves throttle (and turbo) response and opens up the top end a bit more. Sounds like a must do. Has anyone dyno'd before and after with this inlet pipe?

Yes it's that good

I personally have never dynoed my OG

I started off with this inlet as my first mod aside from an AFE filter and a Charge Pipe

Huge difference… And I was lucky to have a 300 mile return drive home after the install because I was visiting a buddy out of the area and used his lift while visiting

Next I installed a BMS Intercooler

Also a huge difference in overall drivability

And then finally I did a TurboSmart DV

Once again the car is better to drive

Stock tune, it's just astonishing

I already have the Evolution Racewerks intercooler and charge pipe, an Akra 300 cell downpipe and cat-back exhaust. Would love a little more throttle response and top end with the stock tune, and this MST v2 pipe seems like the trick.

Did the turbosmart DV add any additional noises and pssshing and whistling? Not a fan of those noises.

I can barely hear the TurboSmart

I got the plump back version for that very reason

Inlet + Intake will improve the sound and throttle response

These are both on my short-list (if they weren't such a PITA).

I don't suppose either require a retune? I'm at BMS2.

I'm not tuned

I'd retune to pick up the benefits

I'm just wondering because I didn't see them in the BM3 list.

Tuning companies does not require adjusting the map after adding an inlet.

The higher flow will improve the performance automatically

No tune needed, the car will be able to adapt to the increase in air flow from the inlet, and the dv doesn't need a tune.

Thoughts on the turbosmart DV vs a GFB? I've had a trouble free experience and long service life with the GFB on my TT RS with a hybrid turbo and was leaning towards that for the M2. Also, seems like a time saver to do the DV when doing the inlet right?

Never had an issue with either brand but the turbo smart is the more popular option now

I personally chose the gfb over the turbo smart, it's a bullet proof design utilizing upgraded parts where needed (the valve and piston) and retaining parts that are bullet proof and known to be reliable (the pierberg magnetic solenoid aka the electronic components). There are zero issues with clearance and or things touching hoses, and there is zero compressor surge.

Thread hijack!

Seems I may finally get around to installing the GFB DV+

How did you know about some "early" versions having too long a plunger spring?

Purchased from Mike@XPH.
Specs or part nos. would be cool.

Thanks!
