2017 M2 DCT LBB MPE trade-in advice
You guys are great for expert advice so here’s my question: how does the MPE factor into M2 resale price ?
I’m US-based with a 2017 M2 DCT LBB under 28k miles. MPE and professional ceramic coating from Tac-Systems. Other M2’s in the area with similar mileage are listed around $42-45k. The dealer does not want to go above 33k for my trade-in... I get it that they would likely put in $2 or 3k for new tires and minor chips but the car is otherwise in great shape. I expected a dealer offer of at least $37k with the MPE, LBB that many people want, DCT, and higher for a private party. Seems like too much of a discrepancy. Am I missing something? Looking for honest and fair input: what would seem fair to you ?? Many thanks ! And if anyone is interested in the car, do lmk of course |

If the car is clean you might get over book If you have the stock exhaust replace it Then sell your MPE to recoup costs

Go to your local dealer and get it appraised for trade in. Tell them up front how much you want. I did this under the premise of getting into a 2021 m2c. They wanted 66k for a new m2c and 34k trade in. I balked. I emailed every single dealership in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas. I told them I would buy for a specific price and if they met my trade in. I got 37k for a 2017 m2 with 17k miles that had been in a fender bender. Bottom line is get that piece of paper and use that to negotiate with other dealers. The year is almost ending so the time to act is now.

get online quotes from carvana and vroom. I trade in my 2017 m2 26k miles 6spd with maybe 20% left on my mpss and i got 39k back in nov.
just depends on how good of a negotiator you are. |

Unfortunately, the MPE won't factor into your resale value. Most if not all mods ever get you anything back even if they are genuine BMW parts. The mods are for your enjoyment.

All the "extras" will not result in any extra $$$ at trade in.
Always best to save the stock items, reinstall and sell the aftermarket stuff. If you want more money. Sell the M2 yourself. Never had an issue selling an M car! |

Not surprised, Dealers are in business to make money and they wouldn’t be doing so at $37k to you. If you want that (or more) you’ll absolutely have to go the private party route, but even then I think you’re significantly overvaluing your car to think it’s worth $42-45k.

The end of October I traded my 17 exec DCT with 8800 miles (out of warranty) needing rear tires and windshield (lots of chips on the drivers side). Rear CF spoiler and tinted windows for 40K. Then still got 5k off the new 21 M2.

Gotcha, put your info into Carvana, etc. just to see what their offer is vs that dealer. I did the same with my 2016 (which is very similar to yours, LBB with 31k, PPF, Ceramic coating, etc.) and their offer was surprisingly good at $36k.

I traded my 2018 in with 18k miles back in October for $41k. it had wheels, some carbon on it and a scratched bumper. It ended up cpo'd at $48k. Doubt they sold it at that though. I also got $15k off the x3m I traded for. I think they really wanted it gone. I was happier then a clam!

Vroom just offered me $37,500 for my 2017 last week. 31k miles 6MT. The used car market is incredibly high right now so do your due diligence and get a few quotes for cash offers. KBB and Carvana do this too and it’s a 5 minute process. If you wait a week Vroom will usually up their offer $500-$1000 as well.

your car's worth whatever someone is worth paying for it. You can try negotiating higher for your trade in or negotiate more off on the car your buying.
Buying a car from a dealer is a push and pull type situation. Some times dealers will make nothing or lose money on a new car and make up for the loss on the trade in or vice versa.

ok so the current offer I received stands at $2000 off MSRP for a 2021 M2 Comp and they're giving me 34500 for my 2017 M2 as a trade-in. Tempting and better than the other offers I've received. What do you guys think ? Should I rush in there or push a little more especially with the end of the year coming soon ? Dilemma

there no incentives on the m2 so buying it now or later won't really effect you. i would push for more. Expand your search to other dealers further out.
The deal your getting is kinda of a whatever deal.

This is all great info guys - thanks ! But there's only a 6% markup on these cars so I'm not sure how you managed to obtain 7% or 10% off without any other manuf incentives on the M2; sounds like you got a great deal! I'm working on finalizing this today or tomorrow but I'll be happy with even 5% at this point - that's $3000 off MSRP. If I get that and an allocation I feel that's good and then I can focus on what's important: getting a great car for the next few years
