M Performance track setup

Does anyone have a good track setup with M Performance coilovers?

Reply from KW

I sent an email to KW about recommended settings and this was the reply I received. I am going to Autobahn this weekend and I'm gonna try it. I will report back next week.

Dear James,

the M Performance coilover was developed on BMW guideline and it is different to the KW V3.

for track you can close the rebound and bump front and rear 2 – 3 clicks.

Street settings would be rebound 9 clicks and bump 4 clicks at the front axle and rebound 9 clicks and bump 4 clicks at the rear axle too.

BMW factory settings for the coilovers:
FRONT are 9 clicks open REBOUND + 6 clicks open COMPRESSION
REAR are 12 clicks open REBOUND + 6 blicks open COMPRESSION

thats what ive been using. But will try with harder settings next time out.

I would stiffen up the fronts 1 click on both rebound and compression so far the car pushes a bit less on the street.

I'll play with the rebound & compression more after I get an alignment.

Can you do me a favor? Can you try seeing how many clicks from full stiff the compression is on your fronts? My front left shock is a bit hard to adjust for some reason.

I think it should be 16. But the softest that Ive adjusted the compression is 14 clicks.

Not sure where you are in regards to track experience. If none, I would leave everything settings wise "stock" and enjoy! There is absolutely no reason for you to change anything at this point. The car is amazing out of the box, and even better with the MPC.

If you do have some experience. My recommendation would be camber plates. You will need them or you will destroy the outsides of the front tires pretty quickly. Ground Control and a few others have plates for the OEM strut size, which is what the MPC is.

Edit:
Oh... just noticed "M3 track car" in your sig. You will want camber plates, brake fluid and pads too.

I am going to Putnam Park this weekend with what I believe is a good track alignment. We'll see what happens. I have ground control camber plates at -2.5 and the coilovers are at the stock setting. Running PFC-08 pads, but I still have the stock fluid.

The E36 had -3.5 with 1/16" toe out in the front and -2 with 1/16" toe in in the rear. TC Kline Coilovers. They gave me a recommended setting for the coils when I bought them and I never changed them in 2 yrs. lol They just worked that well!

I will most likely leave it for Sat and maybe experiment a little on Sunday. I'll report back on Monday.

So it's 16 clicks for both rebound & compression? hrm... maybe I have a defective front left shock.

Can you do adjustments on damping when car is loaded, or does it have to be unloaded?

-2.5 is not enough. My front tires are done after 3 tracks days.
I'm gonna try now -3 or maybe -3.5

It should have 16 clicks for both. But when I was adjusting. 16 clicks was the max for rebound and 14 for compression.

I dont think it matters if car is loaded or not when adjusting for damping...

The car did great at Putnam however I don't think -2.5 was quite enough. I may try -2.75 or a little more next time. There was a little more wear on the outer edges of the fronts. I am gonna stiffen it a little more for next time though. I think I will try about 3 clicks on both rebound and compression but we'll see. I was really impressed, the ambient temperature was around 90F both days and my oil temp didn't go above 220F while on the track. I think BMW has the oil temp issues figured out.
