I have to agree. That time seems a ways off. My best time so far on Laguna Seca in my modified C5 Z06 was 1:50.1. It was the first time I took the car out to the track and I didn't come anywhere close to the level of grip and speed in the corners I should have, but I wasn't necessarily a slow poke, as I was passing plenty of people. I should be able to shave 5 sec off next time I go.

They're using their cell GPS to gauge time. I have the latest and greatest Samsung Note 5 and use the GPS mapping to time my walks and jogs. It's horribly inaccurate and inconsistent when you look at the data. They need a real timing transponder for the track. I call BS on the 1:40.88 time. This car definitely is not beating out a C6 Z06 Vette, Cayman R, and C63 AMG S at the hands of Randy Pobst.
Correct. ALL cell phone gps refresh at 1hz, or once a second. That leaves a lot of room for variability.

You don't think 1 second slower than the M4 is feasible?

I do. I think the GPS isn't great but the timer should be dead on, right? it might lie about your pace around the track but if you start/stop on the start/finish line I'd think it's basically like using a stopwatch.

not the same as going for a jog, waiting for it to hit 3.1miles then checking the time to see what your 5k time is.. i.e. it might say the lap was a few tenths of a mile longer/shorter than actually traveled, but the time should still be accurate.

I'm not an expert but that adds up to me. I do, however, want to see what Randy can do with the M2. maybe they'll do a M2 v. M4 head to head.

He already did an M2 vs M4 head to head, unless you mean on Laguna Seca.

People don't understand what driving skill can do. My friend ran 1:47 in a bone stock 2015 WRX on stock street tires. A modified C5 Z06 with a good driver will be easily sub 1:40.

1:40 is very quick but looking up official laptimes it is 2 seconds behind a GT4.

I bet Randy beats this time during this years Best Driver's Car competition. Randy is a really talented driver, he will be able to prove it soon.

Interestingly, while we were doing auto-x at the Thermal Center a couple weeks ago, Both I, and my brother set our fastest auto-x times with the other person in the car. We were both a couple of tenths slower without a passenger. Not that either of us are highly consistent, but it was interesting.

Yeah, I'd be disappointed if I were saddled with more than 800 extra lbs too. :P

At 10/10 not possible though.

Only way to use tons of power and torque.

Randy Pobst obviously is the more experienced guy at Laguna Seca vs Martin Tomczyk. But Martin as a DTM 2011 champion knows what he is doing too

So two different drivers, GPS malfunctioning so-they-say, slower than an M4, faster than an M3 E92. Almost on par with a 560BHP supersled M6.
AND with 2 persons aboard...

It always will be an apples to oranges game. Always.

I find this video the most amusing of an M2 so far:

-Entertaining and some info like pulling 1.6G(!) in the Corkscrew on 'streettyres'.

-Laying down 90 metres(yards) of rubber down a B road in a long drift.

-8seconds staying in a drift on a dry Laguna Seca in a non modified car.

-Donuts galore

-Dat sound!!

Off course this is probably not the most useful information for a 'car test', but what are we looking for in an M2 anyway? MPG? Luggagespace? Parking Assistance?

Cheers
Robin

So you're saying that you're capable of a running 1:45 on your second time on a track, but then you call BS on professional drivers that can be 5 more sec faster, all of whom have countless more hours of seat time and skill than you probably do? :
