A couple bits of weirdness. Does your car do that?

Just a few things I've noticed, wondering if yours is the same.

1. When I get out of the car there is a small metallic noise from the rear wheel area. I don't think it's the strut because it happened before I got the MPS, and is still happening. Sounds a bit like something is rubbing the brake dust shield, almost like a spring sound. It also happens in hot or cold weather. And before you ask, I'm only 155 lbs . Does yours do that?

2. My emergency brake works, but it's not what I'd call strong. I had the occasion to park on a real hill the other day and the car immediately started to move. I guess I could have yanked it up really hard to see if I could get it to hold, but decided to just put it in gear instead. Is yours like that?

1. I think thats your parking brake loose

2. Yep this confirmed my suspicion with #1. Technical guide says handbrake should be 5-6 clicks from bottom for a full hold. I recently had mine adjusted by the dealer at the latest service.

I concur with nioh_lbbm2. A lot of people do not realize that parking brakes are a serviceable item.

1. Had this looked at when in service a while back, and confirmed it's the e brake cable under tension. At least that's what they told me.

SA just told me it's under the 3/36, so not something he can adjust for me. Great.

I have not had to adjust, yet but should be similar to past BMWs and YouTube has a ton of videos.

There should be a cable tension adjuster under the parking brake boot.

If the parking brake pads are worn there is an adjuster that you can access through a hole in the rotor.

My apartment single car garage is on the very slightest of an incline, almost unnoticeable. But the "landing pad", where I can park a 2nd car, has about a 5 degree grade to it. When I leave my car there for super brief periods of time, I always have to give the ebrake an extra pull or it'll roll back a lot. I don't know how many clicks because I out of habit just hold the button in while pulling the ebrake up. Regardless, I always put the car in gear and ebrake up wherever I park.

The manual has a tip for the hand brake, push the button with your thumb and lift up on the hand brake while driving to clean the brakes of dirt and rust.

It's a good tip, but I can't imagine mine are dirty or rusty. I use the ebrake every day, but had never used it hard until a few days ago.

I have to confess that I still have a habit that I learned when in was in high school.

When I see a cop coming up behind me and I'm going over the speed limit, I use the hand brake to slow down so that my brake lights don't come on. I guess my hand brake pads stay clean 😂.

OMG absolutely the same here!

I taught that trick to a friend of mine and it almost got us killed. We were going quite fast...over a hill...and he applied the brake a bit too hard. Luckily no one was hurt, but we both learned a valuable lesson that day; don't pull the ebrake too hard!

That is very true! I had a friend back then that would routinely use his hand brake to spin the car around in a parking lot.
One should use caution with the hand brake for sure. I have a feeling that the hand brake in the M2 couldn't even lock up the wheels...but ya never know. I won't be trying that stunt 😂.

I use this Rubber Wheel Chock instead of setting the e-brake when my car is sitting and not being driven

That's a great idea for cold climate folks that winterize their cars.

I have needed to get a set of these for the Lotus forever, as I've been using a brick. I ended up with a small set off of Amazon. Thanks for the reminder.

The dealer told me the parking brake is "self adjusting" to some extent. Pull the handle all the way up, hold and release. Repeat 3-4 times. This will adjust it for maximum effectiveness. This has worked for me.
