XDI-35 HPFP When Flashing Back to Stock

Hi All,

My car is running a BM3 tune and an XDI-35 HPFP currently. My car ideally needs to be flashed back to stock in order to recode a new instrument cluster since mine is having issues. So I am wondering, if I flash back to stock with my XDI-35 is installed, what will happen? Will the car run? Throw an error message? Any other details worth noting?

Plan would be to flash back but I would need to take it in on a stock map to get the work done and then flash back to my tune. Any details and info would be appreciated.

The car likely will not run correctly or at all without the stock map on it - which is unfortunate.

Why does it need to be stock for the new gauge cluster to be coded? It shouldn't need to be stock for guage cluster coding, since tuning software is on the DME while the guage cluster coding is in a completely different electronic control unit. Unless you are speaking of a complete ISTEP reflash - which will reset everything including the flash tuning back to stock. But in this instance you could just drive it to the location where the work will need to be done, flash the car stock, when the istep update is done before you start the car flash the tune back on.

My cluster does this weird thing when slowing down where it skips as the speed comes down. But to replace it they need to do a full recode at the dealer.

Curious if anyone has tried this or has experience with this scenario. I'm fine if the car doesn't run perfect at low speed just enough to get it in and out of service.

Ah I see, it's a dealer job. I see now why they would reflash the entire car rather than just code one module. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it makes your life a bit tougher when you cannot run on the stock tune.

I really don't think it will run properly at all, so you may need to tell the dealer you have aftermarket parts and then be around to reflash the car when they are done. This will likely void all your power train warranty, but other warranties should remain in tact.

I'm out of warranty anyways and my service guy and tech are all aware of my mods so not too worried. Just want to make sure it'll at least drive and not cause damage to drive like that for a short distance slowly

I don't know if it will drive, it might not even be able to idle but I don't know for sure because I really haven't seen many people try to attemp this.

So it really is best to just stick around in the dealership and be ready to help load the new tune onto the car when the service guys are done.

I guess that's an option as well. We'll see what happens.

I didn’t drive it far or long but it worked fine on stock tune.
