I have two little kids. GT4 is not functional for me and my family right now. CS has a special allure as I am a fan of what the package represents.

Between these two the Porsche is a no brainer.
In Sweden a M2 CS with DCT and ceramics cost around 110k usd, a base 718 4.0 GTS starts at 85k.. Add 918 buckets and thats almost all you need! |

For anyone interested in pursuing what the 781 GTS 4.0 has to offer, the build is now available on the Porsche website. . . in the U.S. starting bid for Cayman is $88,150 and for Boxter $90,250. So, once you get through the Porsche cash register process, unlikely you will be checking out for less than $100-110K.
Personally, I will extend an interested eye toward the 718 CGTS 4.0 once available in PDK. That being stated, performance-wise, the 981 CGTS was so underwhelming compared to my 718 CGTS that I have serious doubt the 718 CGTS 4.0 will compel me to pursue ownership . . . the so-called '4-banger' is simply a damn near perfect piece of sport car machinery. ///AVM |

Yes, these puppies are expensive! If you are focused on a NAF6 then, yes, a nicely broken-in 981 will do the trick . . . at a LOT less expense than a new 718 BGTS 4.0. Good luck! ///AVM |

This time around looking for a convertible, as well as a manual and naturally aspirated engine as I miss both of those aspects, so the current plan is for when the CLS lease is over to find a cheaper car to lease/finance and use the insurance payment from my totaled M2C to cover a 981 Boxster. |

PDK now available with 718 GTS 4.0 and GT4
Well, Porsche released the following, which includes the update I have been waiting for, and is confirmed in configurator. Namely, PDK now available in GTS 4.0 and GT4. Relevant snippet and other information in full release below.
///AVM "Optional: 7-speed PDK for 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder and 718 GTS 4.0 models For the first time, the 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder as well as the 718 GTS 4.0 models will be optionally available with the 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. This transmission offers the potential for quicker acceleration through rapid and seamless shifts. Six-cylinder 718 variants ordered with this option are expected to reach U.S. dealers in early 2021." https://press.porsche.com/prod/press...DYaesjkrT27mQ: Last edited by ///AVM; 06-24-2020 at 05:04 PM.. |

Went through the configurations online today and came out at 93K for a bare bones GTS and 112k for the GT4. Quite the premium over the M2C and M2CS in both cases. Something to be said for a dedicated mid engine platform though!

I sold my M2C manual because of ordering the GTS 4.0.
Then before the delivery of GTS 4.0 I ordered another M2C (changed to DKG though). I think they are both best in their classes. |

For me yes, but mainly because I don't need or quite like big cars.
I did a lot of cross shopping, for example, 992, Macan S, C63T... and reached the conclusion that M2C is all I need for practicality (shopping at ikea for bulky items) and grand tours (carrying camping items) |

That’s a nice combo! I have both the M2C and 991.2 GT3. Although I like M2C a lot as it is a perfect cruiser for long distances and also a nice car for spirited driving, I can’t stop thinking about the cayman gts 4.0. The ideal scenario would be to buy GTS in addition rather than instead of the M2C. |

Agree keeping both is ideal tho - the 718 GTS 4.0 is the first non-911 Porsche that has my attention, as far as potentially becoming the next stablemate to my M2. Pretty sure the super long gearing would annoy me, however, so I'm hoping the GT3 consolation prize, the 992 Carrera T, gains a few ponies and offers a better (i.e., not so limited) color selection.

We were about to get a GTS 4 and decided on the M2 CS. In Aus the GTS with basic options is around $200k AUD while the CS can be had for $160k optioned out without ceramics. In my opinion the CS grabs your attention whereas the GTS is nice but not spectacular. Neither is available for a drive yet here but I ordered the CS based on being happy with our F80 for the past 6 years.

For perspective my last MT turbo car was a 93 miata pushing 300hp at the wheels. Im familiar with running a small motor with a turbo that would be considered too big and laggy. Just requires a different driving style. Mainly keeping in the higher rev range while cruising around 4k+ Is the downfall of the M2 with MT in straight line speed? |

I'm going to question the turbo thing... My twin scroll setup in the F30 is going to be way worse in comparison based on everything I know about the technologies (the boost pressure differences may change this a bit, but I'm skeptical), and it's one of the least laggy turbo setups I've driven overall. I think BMW does an amazing job. Unless you are short shifting the car under 2k there is little to no turbo lag. I've never felt drop between shifts that would be resolved on the shorter shift time of a DCT over a manual. Additionally, people forget what it's like to drive NA cars where you have no torque or build of power until high in the power band and what progressive power feels like, and the few times that you are a bit off boost the progressiveness is very much like a solid NA motor. Honestly, it's hard to tell the car is turbo'ed 98% of the time other then the fact it is way overtorqued at the low end. Frankly, from a physics standpoint I question the point - turbos spin at such high speeds and have so much momentum that the exhaust gas off time difference between DCT and manual is not going to have a material effect on performance unless you are taking one hell of a pause on shifts, and I don't hurry my shifts.

It completely changes the car. It makes the manual mechanical and precise, like nirvana. About as close to a Porsche GT3 manual box as you can get on a BMW (though not quite GT3, it's like 98 to 100).
