Maybe it is a dumb question but I would like to hear the answer from you:

Since I don't know how the engine will be placed, I would like to know if these new models will have a rear biased xDrive.
It will be a TRUE X-Drive or it will be a Haldex badged by the marketing team as an x-drive????

It is VERY Important for me and my future decisions.

Thank you

Looks more like a Volvo to me, but I am interested to see the final product. I would never purchase a FWD car though... so yeah. To each his own.

I love how people can predict character lines and determine what a car looks like when it is so heavily camo'd. All I see are swirls and non production head and taillamps.

Finally, we can get a M135i sedan (Hopefully somewhere down the road) that can compete with the Audi s3.

Full decision on the 2er is not final yet (full decision will be taken by the end of the year) and can use the UKL chassis but can adapted for RWD. (BMW M are fighting for RWD because the M2 is apparently even more outstanding than the 1er M Coupe)

What the strategy aims to show is a split between the 1er and 2er , but vehicles that cannot compromise on space and versatility will be addressed via FWD namely the 1er , X1 , X2 and Active/Gran Tourers.
This is the 1er Sedan but the strategy involves a 2er Gran Coupe. So that compact entry lines will mirror the upper segments in the BMW portfolio.
Thank you for the update Scott27. Like most of the enthusiasts here, I desire a small-rwd BMW again and am definitely would consider a RWD 228i grand coupe as a replacement for my e90 330i.

I simply could not settle for a FWD 1-series sedan. I would rather drive something like a focus or fiesta ST if I wanted FWD, and I think the X-drive would add too much weight. I want something that is a nice all rounder, can handle occasional track days and auto-X, and won't laughed at car meets (which obviously a very small percentage of the car buying public cares about) but is a competent daily driver.

loving my 228 more and more everyday. lots of sky is falling nonsense around here. I keep hearing people crying for a small RWD coupe. didn't the 228/235i come out less than a year ago? Jesus Christ guys, pick one up! what are you waiting for?

I'm shocked reading the A3 love on here. did anyone actually drive one? it was one of the most boring test drives of my life. had more fun with a rental Corolla days later.

I'm surprised with the lack of knowledge of how some think front wheel drive is a drivers car. The only thing that these cars have in common is a BMW badge. The biggest laugh is Mini saying their front wheel drive it like a go-cart which is rear wheel drive and most Mini wouldn't even know this.

Definitely 2series is pretty great, but maybe I'm little bias, and I agree have driven friends modifed and stock b8.5 a4s hundreds of miles over the last year and find it to be unbelievably underwhelming, a3 might be a different story but no way it's better then a 228i, the 228i I test drove even without sport package or msport , just felt right, I ordered a m235i without even driving one knowing the platform was for me and the extra power and the sound of the inline 6 would only make it sweeter..easily the best bmw on the market that can be had for $40k brand new.. F3x is great but would be way more with the options m235i has, m3/4 are on a whole other level performance wise and price bracket.. Not a fan of the a3 styling so I didn't even consider it, not that it's so horrible but it's like a bite size a4 which I always thought the a4 was like a overpriced VW, just reminds me of my brothers CC way to much on the inside. Whatever! They are all nice cars in their own way !

I remember the days when BMW led the pack

Now, it just sits around and copies other manufacturers.

Why wait for this when someone can go get a GLI manual for cheaper then chip it if they want right now?

Why would that be a bigger mistake than using FWD for the 1 series hatch? It is basically the same car, with different body shape.

See the 235i GC thread. There were some interesting renders in white that made me think I'd found the Successor to my E36 M3/4/5. The next wave of articles hinted that the project was killed, so I spent a little to update my car and keep it another 5-10 years.

Because 2 series is a coupe car not a sedan,2 series have a sporty character.
And everybody says that 2 series is the funniest enjoyable car of bmw since 10 years. So why they want to change this view,i can't understand.

I have no idea what this company is doing anymore besides printing money...and that will be short lived when everybody figures out that there's nothing to differentiate BMW from everybody else any longer.

I was thinking about the 1 series hatch. A hot hatch should be just as sporty as a coupe?
