That's weird. I haven't gone into the Costco yet - still got some rubber on my tires to burn off yet.

But, if I go online and try to order there, it will let me order the tires if I click on "order size without verifying vehicle." It seems that might be the way to get around the OEM sizing thing. The site now says:

"Tires will be shipped to the Costco warehouse selected. Estimated delivery time is 5-10 business days (10-20 business days in AK, HI, PR). You will be notified by email when tires arrive and are ready for installation. After checkout, schedule an appointment at CostcoTireAppointments.com"

Damn, I didn't even think of ordering online! That's the move for sure! Just put new tires on the e90 m3 yesterday too!

Not sure if you have Discount Tire by you, or if you'd consider them, but they'll price match anybody, Tire Rack and Costco included. FWIW

That is usually what I do, I find rock bottom prices then go to discount tire for price match. They will often even give a better price to get your business.

Discount Tire FTW. They have Hunter Road Force balancing as well....not sure what Costco has.

Discount Tire has always been my go-to as they used to mount any tire to any wheel. I think their legal team has asserted them themselves over the past few years and if you have one of the following cases they will now refuse the work:
1) too far plus/minus size from stock
2) use spacers
3) use wheel studs on cars that use bolts
4) tires >10 years old (they start arguing at 6 years but they draw the line at 10)

I just bring the wheels to them without the car so they don't ask any questions.

When I got mine I just bought the tires themselves and had them mounted elsewhere. I've heard they will mount on unmounted wheels but didn't try it myself, I didn't even have the wheels at the time.

If you have troubles at Costco you can always bring them just the wheels and then put them on the car yourself.
Or you can tell them it's an M4. The person at the counter won't know and the tech won't care.

I've used DT as well, but don't just expect to roll in and out.

Take pics of the wheels and car in the parking lot beforehand with some wide shots proving they were taken right before the car went into the bay, with some closeups of the rims. Have a manager physically inspect the wheels before they start any work. If they scratch your wheels you have everything you need to be compensated.

Next demand they use rubber pads on the jacks or else they will just jack your car up without them and can crack the jack points under the car. I always bring four hockey pucks with in case they don't have pads (sometimes their pads are "missing") and watch them as they jack up the car to make sure they don't F anything up. Yeah, I'm that guy. #DealWithIt

Lastly, if everything goes well and there's no damage to the wheels etc. give everyone a nice tip in appreciation.

You may be asking, is this really necessary? Yes, it is. I learned this the hard way.

I'm getting close to needing to replace my tires - at 20k miles now and tread is getting pretty worn down. I was planning on going from the stock MPSS 245/35/19 fronts and 265/35/19 rears to PS4S 265/30/19 fronts and 295/30/19 rears. The rationale was to get better traction and hence higher performance, better stopping distance, etc., etc.

However, after seeing that post about losing some of "the magic" and playfulness, I'm having serious second thoughts, and might just stick with OEM everything.

Was hoping that you all might have some insights and thoughts. Thank you all in advance!

P.S. The M2C is my DD and fun weekend car for driving in the canyons. So, top priority for me is fun and playfulness, not performance and track time. My original thinking was that wider tires would be all gain / no cost. Please do educate me if that thinking is wrong!
Yes. You can lose playfulness. Same thing happened with my manual 325i that came with factory Turamzas. They were pretty good but you could spin them and kick the tail out and slide a bit etc. So like you I wanted the most traction possible. So I got new wide bbs wheels and the stickiest tires I could buy. Now I could take sweepers at ludicrous speeds. The kind that can get you arrested . But then you run out of room as you merge. But what I found was that I could no longer spin the wheels or would have to try really hard to do it. It was harder to toss the car around. Yes if it was doing lap timing it would've been better but around town it just kinda killed the fun . So yes you can kill the magic with too much rubber.

You know, before this car I hated Michelins. These tyres are not in any way great for getting fast times, but what they are... finally... is fun. They don’t want to kill you like old Michelins. They slide about and talk to you. They complement the car perfectly. I really like them.

Moved to 255/285 ps4s. Only a handful of miles so far, but the rear is much harder to break loose. Not sure if I like it, might move down to a 275.

I have 255/275 now in PS4S.. compared to PSS, it's hard to break my rears loose. Also when I do finally break traction on a powerslide, the break away like others mentioned is not smooth.. maybe due to the fact that my tires are breaking in still? Either way, definitely hard to break loose like before in PSS because these GRIP.. That's about my only con about these tires, other than that, everything else is improved and PS4S is an amazing tire.

265/30 19 + 285/30 19 on S007A and loving it

So much front end grip...

The S55 has enough torque to break traction in 1st and 2nd

I'm at a magic point (it feels like!) where my PSS (stock size) at the rear is 3.5-4mm.

It breaks traction but never scary and if you do it at a low corner so predictable it's lovely it actually feels like a marvel.

I was set on going 255/275 PS4S next but I know how grippy that tyre is and you don't read that it breaks traction in the same predictable way as PSS.

Sure sometimes I'd like more grip but only sometimes. Spinning the wheels like a hooligan with the engine screaming is just one of life's pleasures right now!

Just had my PS4S installed, went with 255 and 275. For months I was debating on sizes at first I was definitely going 295 route, but after seeing it in person with stock suspension I wasn't feeling the look. Also saw one with 305 and lowered it was sick looking. If I were to go coil over route I would have definitely gone with 295s. Than I was thinking going 265 and 285 but that combo wasn't available for PS4S. So ended up with 255&275. So far magic is still there, I will report back after few months once I broke her in. I am not new to PS4S, overall great set of tire. Also my car is tuned, braking her loose is no issue at all lol.

A long, long time ago I standardized on Michelins for all cars for all tire types.

My 2017 M2 arrived with Continentals. I know a lot of folk complained about them, complained that they were 3's instead of the newer 5's, etc. I was extremely happy with them. They stuck and handled very, very well. The only "issue" was that they wore out at ~12K, which seems to be a trend with newer the tire types b/c my stock Michelin X4 tires where shot at about the same mileage.

I replaced the Continentals with the much revered Michelin Pilot 4S tires in 255/275 sizes. It removed the stretch look, +1 but I think the handling may have been a tad worse but definitely no improvement except the look. I also think this was due to brand switch more than the tire size and I think I'm the only one who liked the Continentals.

My 2020 M2C arrived with Michelin Pilot SS. I only have ~6K but feel the tires aren't any better or worse than the MP4S tires and still not better than the Continentals.

I also don't fell going 255/275 will improve traction any perceptible amount. On the M2 as the tires wore, I could break traction easily. Whereas the M2C can rip a new set of tires of the pavement w/o even trying too hard.

All said other than cosmetics I don't think the 255/275 size did much if anything and I'm considering trying the newer version of the Continentals, but having a serious brand dilemma b/c I have used Michelin for soooo long.

All good feedback. I was only really looking at 255/275 to afford more rim protection and provide more comfort on the street.

So I'm inclined to stay stock now.

Any pics of your setup?

I'm running stock engine, so its harder for me to break the tires loose. It'll still happen if I floor it, but on the stock 265 PSS I could moderately press the accelerator and it would predictably slip.

I too have been a Michelin fan but, I recently saw a Consumer Reports review on performance tires.

They said that the General RS tires were very comparable to the Michelin PS4's and almost half the price.

I spoke to Rudy at the Tirerack.com and he agreed and in fact, has Generals on his car.

Ordered a stock set for my M2 - $769 all included for 4. getting them installed next week.

Btw, I currently have 52K miles on fronts PS4's - keep 37 PSI all around - about half that on the rears so, it will be interesting on how durable the General tires will be.

Oh, by the way, I also discovered that the lowest pricing seems to be Costco of all places! I'm gonna get me some tires AND turkey pesto sandwich while I'm at it!
Make sure they have a hunter road force tire balancer. Most don't. That's why I don't use Costco. Unless you plan on buying tires their only.

Edit looks like that ship sailed
