My friend brought over the focus RS and I like the CTR more. Basically better seats, great shifter feel, less artificial, and way more interior room and better quality. This car just feels faster than the RS.

The most high performance fwd I've driven was the Fiesta ST. This type r takes the top spot now IMHO. The only thing going with the Fiesta ST was the turning radius, steering feel and raw feel. Other than that the CTR is better. Chassis feels more sorted and planted.

I was impressed with the M2 and now I'm impress with the CTR just as much. The CTR is a really good FWD car and based on feel off throttle I like the civic better but when powering I like the rwd feels better. Between the two cars if you're on a budget go with the CTR. If you can afford the M2 it's the nicer car with I drive and better quality dealer to work with. The problem is that the M2 is not $20k better especially the driving feel, performance, and driving excitement is close.
I appreciate your write-up and opinion but, confused by the acronym you used. Does CTR mean Civic type-r for short? If you mean it reminds you of an Evo I understand.

I'm only curious because I've owned a Evo X. I still haven't had a car exit a corner like an Evo X, not my RS or the M235i I had before. If the Civic type R is anything like the Evo, I'm impressed.

CT-R is no Evo X. People have forgotten how good that car handles.

Haven't tracked the car yet but I had an evo 8, 8.5,9 and final edition. No joke. The civic type r feels fast in corners and it won't surprise me if the civic is faster. They evo has better feel though and has the best feel of any front heavy cars I've driven.

On the evo comment, the evo scrub going fast out and easily over driven. If you want a fast out car try the Porsche 991.2 cars.

I can't wait to see the lighting lap and comparason articles to verify my claims.

I was definitely torn between getting the Civic Type R and the M2. The absurd mark-ups on the Type R made the decision a little bit easier to go with the M2. I have nothing but respect for the Honda and the engineering that went into the Type R. I also look forward to seeing them Lightning Lap times.

Over heating issues on the CTR are showing up in only one track sessions on a warm day.

This might be an interesting car to me but I can't get over how BAD it looks. No matter how awesome this car handles, this is were I draw the line. My 2 cents.

All subjective. I personally love the way it looks, especially after seeing some in person.

I just couldn't get over the 20-25k markups.

As an old fart, I couldn't bring myself to buy a FWD sports car, no matter how it looked.

The looks here don't change my mind.

Still, the OP is happy with his new car, so shitting on it too much is bad form, in my opinion. It's what he wants at a price point he's comfortable with.

The OP does not own a CTR but an M2. So show love or shit all you can it's all good. I started the thread for discussion purposes as I am a car fan like everyone else.

Sorry, when I opened the thread it went to the first unread post, which was by the dude who just bought a Civic and was clearly happy about it. So he wasn't the OP, he was an in-the-middle P....I

Why are they marking it up so much? Is it limited production?

It's not really that limited, estimates are 6000 Type Rs in North America between both the 17 and 18 model years. It's such a niche car in the US (manual, FWD, hot hatch, polarizing styling) that it should end up having far more supply than demand in my opinion. It's the hype and the false demand the scum dealers are trying to portray. It's an exactly copy of the Focus RS launch where cars were selling for 50-60k initially, but now a bunch are sitting on dealer lots at MSRP.

Lots of people who idolized the Type R growing up up are at the age where we can actually afford 60k for one so many of those are willing to pay a significant premium for one of the first few batches of cars. Like I said in another thread, I can certainly afford it but it's against my principles to pay markups (especially 20k ADMs!).

Before I re-considered the M3/M4, I looked at one and was sent multiple invoices from dealers for prices as high as 65k.

Insanity.

Same thing. I've received probably a dozen quotes, with none at even MSRP and the cheapest being 10k over. Ridiculous.

Probably more than you realize. I own a 7 series for long trips and wife drives a Grand Cherokee for hauling and winter driving and now I want a fun performance car. I can afford the M2 and therefore the Civic Type R so price is not the issue with me.

My first car was a Honda (by choice) and I've owned several Hondas over the years and so the thought of buying the best performance Honda has me intrigued.

I ordered the M2 and now in wait mode. I do plan to test the Civic Type R and if I like it, might just opt for it instead. I will say my wife no doubt will give it a big thumbs down but she doesn't have to ride in it if she doesn't want. Wife loves the M2 in LBB.

One thing I won't do is pay over MSRP which may mean no R.

p.s. Just watched videos Matt Maran and Doug Demuro did on the Type R and the M2 and withut a doubt the M2 looks at least $20K better than the Type R. Demuro didn't like the power or sound of the Type R which are 2 thigs that would bother me.

He chose poorly...

Took some pictures of the one I saw in SF in my hood. He was wearing blue and red clothes to match the car though, so I have to give him points for really going for it!

Same as you. I was cross-shopping the two and while I love the looks of the Type R, I was definitely not going to pay over MSRP. In my opinion the M2 beats the R in the looks department (by a hair), but the sounds and finish from an M2 is much better and probably worth the 20K over an R.

Around a track, I believe the two are very comparable.
