I just talked with Chris about another car, but he said they were just waiting for a test car to be available - software was completed a month ago. The one that they had set up was a no show. If anyone wants a free controller, they are looking for a Dyno car, & I assume you just need to call them.

Did you drive down to the San Jose location. That’s where I got my Stage one done. Super nice folks and I got to meet Steve while I was there.

It’s a piggy back unit, so yes.

Do they have the latest ISTA to test if the new piggyback detection routine picks it up?

I have no idea what you just wrote? If you are asking about if BMW will pick it up and void the warranty the answer is No! Carbahn has guaranteed the full warranty.

BMW would void the warranty. Carbahn would simply pick up the coverage gaps, provided you pay for the matching warranty.

True! They said I could bring it to any dealership and if it's an issue they would handle it.

That is one of the main reasons I went with them and the warranty. I figured if noting happens within the 2y of warranty I had when it was installed the tune is solid and good to go.

No! the only tune available through Carbahn for post 6/2020 is a piggyback. My car is there now so they can do the development on the piggybank.

Just to confirm I'm understanding correctly, so long as my M2C has a build date prior to 6/2020, I should have the unlockable/tunable ECU, correct?

I ran my VIN through a couple of online decoders and both seem to indicate a build date of January, 2020. If my understanding is correct, this means I can use Bootmod3. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It can be tuned via BM3, but it does require a bench unlock. After 06/2020, a bench unlock is no longer possible.

Just to make sure everyone understands..

You need to either pull the DME and ship it to a vendor , or drop the car at a vendor that can modify/unlock it for you.

The vendor can then install whatever tune they have that you want. BM3, Ecutek, Carbahn, etc...

OR, once the OBDII port is open from the unlock you can install a tune thru the port yourself with the proper cable and software.

So you can take it to any tuner/shop that know how to bench the ECU. You are then free to add any software that you would like. Once it is benched you can add bm3, ecutek or whatever software that you like. All you need is an OBDII to ethernet/usb cable.

That's correct...

The shops will want to sell you the tune as well.

You pay the same from the tuning co as the shop that's licensed AFAIK.
