Japanese Inspired M2 OG Build (JDM)

Hi all, first time posting a build thread. I wanted to keep track and have a record of all the parts I am throwing at this car while sharing some big moments on the build.

IG: @fk8.typer

Coming from a FK8 and FRS previously, this is my first Euro. I always wanted a manual M2 but the price was too good for this 2017 Alpine white DCT with less than 17000kms. I traded in my previous 2017 Type R for a lower mileage bimmer without adding cash on top.

My goal for this car will be a trackable street car that will be my daily driver. I currently have winters on the stock 437m wheels.

Specs are listed below on the car as a baseline:

2017 Alpine White BMW M2
Exec Pack
No sunroof
DCT
16500 kms
Mperformance exhaust

Current modifications:

Coding
- Bimmercode (Various)

Interior
- IND Red start stop button
- 3D Design Paddle Shifters
- Pedal Haus DCT Pedals (Silver)
- Blackvue Dashcam
- Recaro RSG-K Grey Kaumi
- Brey Krause OEM electric slider rails

Exterior
- IND Black grill surround
- IND Alpine White reflector
- EURO LCI Tails
- Carbonio no drill license plate mount
- Titanium car parts license plate torx bolts
- 3d design style lip
- 3d design style side skirts
- 3d design style diffuser

Footwork
- Stoptech SS braided lines
- Motul RBF660 fluid
- Ferodo DS2500 brake pads

Exhuast/Engine
- M Performance Exhaust

On order or sitting at home:

- Advan GT Machining hyper black 18x9.5 +22
- Nankang CR-1 275 35 18
- Extend R-DMP coilovers
- Wheelstud kit

First Mods

As the staple first mods of any BMW, it is replacing the chrome grill and reflectors. While I was surfing the IND store, I thought I might as well change the start/stop button as well. I debated on getting the blue to match the stitching but it didn't seem right for a start button.. The total came out to be way too fucking much but o well, M tax

Wheel order

I had many sets of wheels in the past on my previous cars:
Volk TE37RT
Volk ZE40
Volk CE28SL
Advan GT
Volk TE37SL

After being inspired by the Studie AG Japan team in Tokyo with their M2 comp, I wanted to run the same wheels as their shop car. I decided to order a square setup as I have always preferred a symmetrical look and also to minimize the understeer that comes with a staggered fitment. Also wanted to go with 18s instead of 19s due to the availability in tire choices being cheaper. The 19s look really bad IMO with the lip and more convex face. I decided to order the hyper machining black because of the machined lip and went with a fairly aggressive offset of +22.

Goldenwrench Paddle Shifters

I got tired of the stock paddles and needed an upgrade. My friend Reggie from NRI had a set of Goldenwrench silver paddles at his garage up for sale. They were high quality and felt very sturdy no matter top, middle, or bottom of the paddle.

EDIT: SOLD These are now for sale as I bit the bullet and bought 3d design paddles...

Warranty is love, warranty is life

Read about the infamous problem of the MPE rattle and mine was no exception when I bought the car. The rattle was ear piercing and I couldn't take it anymore. My factory warranty was expiring early February of 2021 and I was lucky enough to have a friend that could help me out. While I was at it, my taillights were also starting to condensate. We decided to try and warranty both items and killed 2 birds with 1 stone. Someone at the dealership "fucked up" and ordered me EURO LCI instead of the NA ones LOL The new LCI tails definitely improved the rear end look and for some reason, makes the car look slightly lower

3D Design Paddles and Pedal Haus Pedals

Before I even had the car, I fantasized about building a 3Ddesign catalogue car, until I saw the price tags. The only 3Ddesign part I could barely afford were the paddle shifters lol I was also quite set on the 3D pedal set as well but I discovered pedal haus ones that were similar at a fraction of the price.

I might be solo in this opinion but I kind of dig the chrome/silver accents on the M2.. So i opted to get the blank silver pedals from IND (the M logo hella tacky imo) and the silver paddles which go quite well together. Just waiting on Brey Krause to reply and ship those rails out to finish my interior..

Polar blue works really well IMO, especially if you complement it with a few matching accents

Just discovered your thread, I'm working down a similar path.

I've had two Subarus and a Golf R. Really enjoy a lot of the Japanese design/aftermarket influences I performed on both.

Just took order of TE37 Ultra M Spec. I don't want to do much to the outside of this car except larger/black exhaust tips and some carbon bits.

Same same, will be more of a clean street look for a bit before I slap a voltex wing on it

Excited to see this car come together! I too love how Japanese shops tune their BMW's, I'll probably be following the same route as you when I get my M2

A little update before spring

As spring nears, the parts are going on the car! The brey krause rails finally came in and the shop that installed it said it was a PITA to install. But man does it look sleek now with the powered rails. To compliment the power rails, I also added heat pads to retain the heated seat. Might be a first for powered rails and heated seats on a Recaro.. Still need to sort out the air bag light so if anyone has any info or instructions, that would be greatly appreciated!

The lip, sideskirt and diffuser were also installed (3Ddesign style) which also turned out to be pretty sick fitment. Another small touch I installed were the amber side signals in the headlight which I replaced with a chrome led from Aliexpress. Looks way better now without amber in the front.

Now just waiting on the coilovers and tires and we will be good to go for spring/summer V1

Recaro Pictures

Recaro RSG-K Grey with BreyKrause power rails and heated seat functionality. Would have to say I fucking hated the stock OEM 2 series seats with a m badge on it, worst decision BMW has ever made. This bucket completely changes the way the car feels

These seats look much nicer. How do you find the height on the power rails? In the pic it looks almost taller than the passenger seat.
