What does the guy at work drive?

I've had similar comments in the past about my 135s and one recently on my Mini Cooper JCW...a few quick runs on back roads always seemed to shut them up.

Thanks for all the awesome replies!! Funny replies too!

I'm only going to keep one car: the cushy Tesla Model S or switch to a M2C. I think the more mature, comfortable, high tech, efficient and logical Tesla will have to go. But I will wait to see what the new M4 is like. I tried the current M4 and it felt like a beast. If the new one is more like the M2C, I might go for that.

So true. I caught so much flak from coworkers on the s2k. The biggest shit talkers drove appliances like Rav4s, camrys, H2s, beat to hell tahoes, etc. One guy told me my car should have a "proper v8" like his SUV. That v8 had like 5+ liters of displacement and somehow only made about 200 hp. Think I'll hard pass on that one.

I also wanted a small car that I could enjoy, and so the M2 seems to check every box. The only other "small" car i was interested in wat the 718, but was not interested in a 4 banger which was available back then...maybe next time.

I'm not a showy person, so buying the biggest M out there was not a motivator for me, and I couldn't care what people think. I also have multiple cars at home so making a small coupe decision was easy. There are people on this board who will be surprised that 40, 50, 60 70 somethings will buy this car, but in my experience I've seen a dude in his 60s, a dude in his 70s driving this thing, so there really is no right age. Do what you want, and drive what you want. Having owned the M2 for 8 months now, I can only say I love this car and very glad I bought it.
Yeah, the M5 seems more "age appropriate" but even though it's way more expensive, I have no interest in it after having the Model S for a few years. Going really fast in a straight line while feeling nothing is not that satisfying for me.

I always wanted a BMW since I was a kid. An M car was unimaginable. I did get an E90 335 when I got older and drove that for 10 years. I still miss it. The M2C reminds me of the E90, only better.

Great to hear I'm not the only one who thinks this way. I have yet to meet someone who got rid of their fancy Tesla to get into a smaller "ICE" car. I know people who own both a Tesla and a sports car, but with only one car I only hear of people going from BMW/Porsche to Tesla. Not the other way around.

For me the current M4 is a land yacht. The new M4 is going to be even bigger. The M2C is the same size as my old E46 M3.

I am 68 and my M2C is my daily driver and I love it. When I was younger there were sports cars and then there were muscle cars and you tended to gravitate to one or the other. With the M2C I have a great sports car, but at the same time with rear wheel drive and 6sp manual it can behave like a muscle car when you want it to. I enjoy driving it every time I am in it and like others on here have said, when I park it I cannot help but look back at it.😀

Most people follow a path that others tell them they should, and which they begin to perceive as normal or par for their "status". I say get what your gut tells you (and a test drive perhaps). I never drove one before mine but the emotional draw was high for me for the M2, that the first one I drove was my own. Also, given BMWs track record, the new M4 will be bigger and heavier. It may be more powerful but a lot of raw feel will be lost along the way. The way the M2 is, is what makes it so fanatically loved.

Same here. Every time I see one drive across, I cant help but notice that large rear overhang, and how long it takes to go by me . Unless you need 4 seats all the time (and even then), I see no reason to get an M4 over an M2, a few bells and whistles aside...

This is definitely a first world problem, but now that the Tesla tech amazingness has worn off, I just drive it around like a minivan. Whenever I hear Elon Musk talk about the next advance in self driving, rather than being appropriately excited, I think.. oh great, so we will make driving even more boring.

I test drove a M2C about a year ago and my reaction was.. "it's alive!" I loved it. But at "my age" I'm debating if an M3/M4 is more appropriate. Or even a 911, although I'm loathe to spend that kind of money on a car. Is the M2C more of a car for 20 year olds or 30 year olds? This sounds like a stupid question in my head even as I type it. But it's a thing. You know, I shouldn't be wearing skinny jeans at some point either (not that they fit me, but you know what I mean).
Hello all,

I have not read through the thread... So apologies if something I note is less pertinent to the conversation, but to the original owner of this thread... if you truly enjoyed the test drive, BUY AN M2!

I owned an original M2, and after a less than an enjoyable accident in said car, I now have an M2C. Both are phenomenal machines. I daily drive mine throughout the winters of the Siberia of the USA. I am 48 heading quickly to 49. Wonderful machine, YOU ARE NOT OLD! My father would be rolling over in his grave! Drive, enjoy, drive, enjoy!

All the best to everyone!

I feel like anyone who talks shit about an S2k has no idea what they are talking about. The S2000 is one of the few cars in the car scene that garners almost universal praise, especially by people who track their cars. Sure not everyone will love it (i dont expect them to), but the S2000 is a car you cant deny how good it is and STILL is even if you dislike them.

I had a very short test drive in the M2C and loved it. Maybe it also had something to do with the MT, although I would order it with DCT for commuting. I had a short test drive in the M4 CS and it felt like a beast. It didn't put the smile on my face that the M2C did. I was hoping that maybe the new M4 might get better steering and a better feel, despite the infamous grill. I did test drive the M340i and it's a great car. Unfortunately, I test drove it right after the M2C and that made the M340i feel a bit boring. I wonder if BMW will mess up the magic formula of the M2C when they redesign it. That might be a great reason for me to order one now, while I still can.

I'm in my 50's and wife is in her late 40's, we still enjoyed our M2C and replaced it with a Z4M after being totaled, although granted we also have our CLS and GLC (aka old people's cars ) for daily's.

Get what you love. Who cares how old you are, enjoy it.

What makes your heart beat fast is most appropriate.

I don't know bro, those mid-2000's EVO and STi's with the gargantuan wings were definitely for the mid-20's crowd.

Exactly this. Though I got mine at 30, I believe the AVERAGE 20-30 year old the OP describes cannot afford a new M2C. Of course there's exceptions, or rich kids, but you (OP) should get what makes you happy. You have no obligation to uphold a stereotype or feel out of place buying a car like this!

That's why when someone says something ignorant about a car like the S2000, M2C, or Cayman, I just respond: "You don't know much about cars, do you?"

It shuts em up real quick.

Because they actually don't know much about performance cars to be making fun of a smaller, lighter sports car.

I'm 45 btw and I am very happy with the M2C as my daily driver. I also get a nice amount of compliments from men of all age groups...from little kids to retirees. And many of those men are driving big SUVs, pickup trucks, large sedans, etc.... a.k.a, "manly" vehicles.

It's all been said but what the heck.

After a few BMWs, I bought my dream car, the E39 M5, almost new in my mid thirties. I thought I was pretty cool.. Per the press release, this was supposedly a middle-aged or older executive car. It is still my favorite car. Although I don't drive it much any more, every time I do I smile...

Fast forward, I bought the M2C in my early 50s...per the press release, this supposed to be a gateway car to other Ms. I don't care. I absolutely love it. And while not as much a sleeper as my beloved E39 M5, honestly to most people it is just another 2 series.

Relatively stealth, perfect size, seats four, has a good-sized trunk, MT, and RWD...what are you waiting for?

You could just be like every other 50 year old and get a corvette 😂. I do get what you're saying though. Even me at 34, I wouldn't buy a STI bc it feels like a tuner boys car. I think anything German passes for all ages though.

But I'd order a T50 in a heartbeat and never look back lol

Ha. I'm over 50 and have both a classic WRX and an M2C. You are as only as old as the car you feel. Or something like that.
