That usage fits the OG perfectly. Lighter, sounds better, N55 cooling issues are not really a factor unless tracking, and the seats allow the use of Schroth QFP that will be a huge help in autocross (Comp seats will not). You can also add some power if you like without suffering the cooling downside you would see on the track.

If you were to track it I would say M2C all day (I believe it is one of the most fun dual duty cars available). But with street only & the occasional AutoX the N55 all day. The ceiling on the comp is much higher but if you are not going there it is not worth the additional weight, forced 19s, and flatulence.

A 6spd OG is an absolutely lovely car. Throw a CAE shifter on it and it is such a joy to drive on the street.

Perfectly stated, I must say

Based off all the educational responses, I think I’m going to pursue a N55 variant. I do like the slight changes in the 2018 LCI model year. I’ll be on the lookout for a preferably blue or white, manual, executive package, no sunroof M2. I don’t expect prices to go down dramatically, but hopefully the market continues to adjust!

Good write up.

I have owned many 911 variants and most recently an R8 and have to admit I found myself driving my wife's 2018 LCI M2 all the time to the point where she said enough is enough.
I was offered $40k over what I paid for the R8 so decided to get a 2020 M2C so we'd have the best of both worlds. Now my wife drives the M2C all the time...

Anyhoo they are both a blast to drive and I agree with everything OG Shark posted above.

Test drove a 911 for a couple days when we went on vacation in LA a few years ago, don't get what all the hype is about. M2 is WAY better.

It depends what version. I still really like the way 997s drive and think they are better than an M2 from a pure driving standpoint. I know 991 and later are softer.

997s are pretty understeery. I was on the brink of buying a 6MT 997S but I chose E90 M3 6MT(2008)....anyway 997: I prefer the hooliganism of any M2.

Don't know about the 991, 992(a friend of mine has a 992S(my car is a tad faster lol) and a good acquintance a 992 GT3 Touring, understeer almost gone he stated , double wishbones up front ....)

I once drove a 964 RS back in the 90s. Great car, but if I had to drive it now I think it would be a real disappointment, just like E30 M3.

Cheers
Robin (M2 Comp upgraded brakes, crank hub fix, 540BHP/700Nm)

I'm not gonna talk crap about the N55, all the negatives have already been pointed out. What I will say is, drive both, then make a decision. I did, and the Comp feels like a completely different car. One feels like an M-lite, the other a true M car. Get whatever suits you.

The satisfaction I derived from the 991.2 Turbo above the M2C was simply not worth the premium IMHO.

The R8 was more like a GT3 with respect to engine characteristics but way too much attention for my liking and driving all day in second gear (in the city) just to hear the exhaust got old quick...(valves only opened after 4500rpms).

I agree here but love driving them both...it's weird.

Driving them both back to back is definitely recommended. I did that twice before I bought mine, and both times much preferred the OG.

If you are buying an M car based solely on the engine sound, you should look at cheaper options.
Otherwise, you should get the car that offers the M-dedicated engine (and S version of the standard great engine).
Having owned both engines, the S55 is an excellent engine...

I'll never understand the perspective of the "S" is a must have for the engine. A car can be super fun without it.

1M anyone?

I don't think anyone is saying the OG isn't fun... it just isn't a true M car. My 135i was fun too, if you catch my drift.

The S55 is an excellent engine no doubt about it

But based on it's sound alone, it's an engine I'd never care to own

That said, the N55B30T0 N55 M2 Engine is a M built engine, regardless of it not having a "S" in it's engine coding

I think you started this one with your "M-Lite/True-M" remark. I'd bet you're one of those S-code snobs, and a statement like that almost proves it. There is very little difference in feel between the OG and M2C, and what difference there is goes to the OG for sure because of sound and more of a torque feeling down low. Pull up beside me and I'll show you M-lite.

Actually, I didn't start this. All I kept reading was "my OG is better cause it sounds better, I think" type of bullshit. If you think the difference is very little, then you're either in denial or plain dumb. As far as pulling up beside you, I'd love to. Here is what my S55 does with nothing but a reflash.

No one is talking about a tuned M2 or M2C. Stock models 0-60 times are almost identical.
