Some things I wish I had known to add to the OPs list:
M2C is easier to slide in sport, and you can absolutely wrap it around a tree with MDM. Seriously, I'm not even sure I've had MDM intervene even with the car totally sideways. M2C has great brakes... that are a pain in the ass for daily driving. They are so grabby, even after having mine for a year, I was still sometimes putting my passenger through jerkiness at slow speeds. LCI M2 has a more active MDM. LCI M2 feels lighter on its feet. I'm not sure if it's the weight or that the M2C just feels more planted. But the LCI M2 just felt more lively/fun to me, albeit less capable. |

It really is an odd debate, but the elitism of humans never ceases to make me chuckle.
I don't see the M lineup as M2CS > M2C > M2 but rather the M2 and then the M2C and CS they are two different cars; anyone who has driven them will tell you that and if they don't, they probably formed their opinion from youtube. I love them all for different reasons (haven't driven a CS), but I have to admit I hate the stigma the Comp inadvertently placed on the OG M2, it is now deemed as the lesser car and I belive this is in part due to clueless morons on the internet. The N55 is what? 80% parts from the S55? The M2 in general shares almost everything that matters with the M3/4, they are closer than people realise but by not actually sharing the S55 the OG created it's own agenda and that's what makes it special. If I was gonna moan about anything on the OG it certainly wouldn't be the engine, more like the choice of seats or lack of M mirrors, I do wonder why? I sat in my mate's Mercedes CLA 220D the other day and even that has basic half-suede sports seats and couldn't help but think they could have just put something like these in and it would have changed the whole interior but it is what it is.

BMW calls the M2 an M car, and therefore it is. However, all previous M cars (except the 1M IIRC) were geared towards competition, and had an "S" designation in the engine code. Without the Comp there would have been little to no debate about this, and all the finger pointing would have been done from OG M2 owners towards the M235i owners, but giving the Comp an S code, and all of the competition upgrades means it will always be seen as the true M2 by M guys. I think BMW have changed their mind about what an M car is. So many more M cars have been used for back-road blasting and casual HPDE's than real racing that M has an identity crisis. I didn't even know about them! My point was that it's DEEP, and has no answer. But thanks for the info!

I will like to chime in from a “non-m guy”. Before this car I had a ‘15 mustang gt and I also currently have an ‘14 ralliart (a bastard child of the Evo)
I cross shopped the 718 Cayman S, 3.0 Supra, and lastly the OG M2. I test drove all these cars and when I drove the OG M2 last (there was an M4 and M2 comp I was also going to drive at the same dealership). Needless to say after I drove the OG, I couldn’t justify dropping the extra 10k on the M4 or M2 Comp. The way the OG just feels like it’s pissed off all the time is amazing. So for me, based on numerous factors the OG won my heart But the Supra was also pretty damn crazy, just too tiny for me. I honestly have never ran into a comp owner that said “you know that’s not a real M”. Most don’t really care lol |
