M Perfomance Exhaust Worth It
My car is about to go in for it's first yearly service with a whopping 5K miles. I was going to have the BMW M-performance exhaust installed (and carbon diffuser) while there.
Anybody do this exhaust and wished they hadn't? Or wished they went a different route? I got a thing for keeping this car OEM as possible, but I think some tasteful BMW performance parts are ok But wanted to make sure a system like the Akropovic isn't way cooler or something. I want louder exhaust and no cow udder muffler. Thank you!!

It was at this time that I committed to the AA mid/Remus race to be installed at my break-in service. I think it's one of the best looking options with practically nothing hanging below my CF diffuser. Is it a "tad" loud? Sure. But 2020 is a reminder that you live once so F it.

Agree with the above poster, sound is a personal preference. I wanted a slightly louder but deeper sounding exhaust. My local dealer had a new M2C with the MPE installed on it and after I heard it, that was the right choice for me.
I also have a valve controller so I can have the valves open at all times - great amount of deeper sound than stock exhaust!!! Try to find a car you can hear in person. |

Oh dang, the MPE hangs low still? Damn. It looks and sounds good, but I don't want to see the muffler.
The Akropovic doesn't hang low and I could do the Evolution link pipe. I'll chat up the Bimmer advisor about the warranty still being covered, thats the other concern. I'll prob get Geico insurance as well for the mechanical breakdown coverage. I like Akropovic because they do motorcycle stuff. But yep, time to read that exhaust thread again. If the MPE exhaust isn't the right choice, maybe I should look at another brand of coil overs too.....damn, time to go down the rabbit hole...

Honestly the move is looking like one of these new AA equal length midpipes and stock exhaust.

I’ve heard it and it sounds pretty good. It wasn’t out yet when I got my Remus, but there are two detractors in my mind. Don’t intend to throw shade on anyone that purchased this, but this is simply my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
1. It hangs low still, which to me is sort of ridiculous when there is so much room underneath. It’s almost like you could invert it and it would fit in the space under there. 2. Price. Might not be an issue to some and more power to you, but this is one expensive exhaust. |

That said, when I'm driving it with valves open (MDM), it never fails to make me smile and laugh. Might still sell the Race and buy a sport while keeping AA Mid. |

Welp, I appreciate the replies. I ended up going with the MPE because of the warranty stuff and for the dealer to install it while it's there for the annual service. They weren't keen on installing an non BMW kit. It seems like all the aftermarket exhausts are legit though, but it seemed logical for me to go with BMW to keep the car OEM clean as possible and keep it maintained by the dealer. I dislike working on newer cars and a lot of the fasteners are onetime use it seems.
Thanks again!!!

I want it to be louder for sure, but I think sound should just be a byproduct of performance increasing. Sort of like dragging your knee on a bike, its just a byproduct of speed through a corner.

Anyone else notice the MPE has gotten louder over time? My car is considerably louder now with 3K miles on it. Seems like since about 2500 mi or so it's slowly increased in decibels. Frankly I hope it doesn't get any louder.

Getting a little louder is not uncommon, but I would get down there and check to make sure there aren't any leaks in the exhaust clamps or welds just in case as it shouldn't get substantially louder.

Good idea. Didn't realize cracks are not uncommon occurrence on these exhausts until someone listed one for sale recently with cracks all over. Doubt that is the case on mine with so few miles but worth checking out.

Deciding between the slip on from Akrapovic and the M PERFOMANCE exhaust for my M2C.
If the price difference is no issue what would be your choice and why? The car is made Europe, so it DOES HAVE the OPF, unfortunately. Last edited by kart driver; 07-13-2020 at 07:31 AM.. |

I have just received the offer for both MPE and Akrapovic.
Akrapovic turns out to be slightly cheaper option. I can’t find a single reason why I would go for MPE under these circumstances. |

I'd go for the Akrapovic then. MPE is cool and I like it, but I wanted the car to stay all BMW. I briefly flirted with the non BMW idea, but my dealer wouldn't be down to install anything but the MPE option. It's an easy job, but I wasn't interested in messing with it.
