Unfortunatly nothing, I didn't even get the drain plug for free. I wish I atleast got free parts but no, I just do this because I enjoy it.

Can’t be much Lol. At least he’s not running a YouTube channel he’s promoting alongside “promo codes” that come along with these posts.

This is less off putting as F87 at least includes a bunch of technical information.

F87 is one of the rock solid sources on this forum...I of course was joking around about him making $'s :-)

Lol thanks guys, but I honestly do not make a single penny doing these. I haven't even gotten anything free from Turner/ECS, I did get a discount though but it wasn't close to free - it probably offsetted the shipping to Canada.

Definitely!

For me there was a thin layer of grey gunk that was stuck to the magnet.

Pretty sure anything a magnetic drain plug catches would also be cought by the oil filter.

It doesn't hurt to help the filter, thereby keeping the filter media free to catch everything else.

But extremely fine particles could still pass through the filter, since nothing is 100% efficient. Thus the drain plug will still help reduce engine wear.

F87source thank you for putting this together 😄- proper information, well done!

However, I am just trying to avoid possible issues…would this drain bolt for the aluminum drain pan for my ‘19 M2C/S55 motor?

According to Turner’s website, the drain bolt you referenced here would not fit; reached out to them as well, and their R&D said the following

“it is due to baffling in the oil pan not allowing the oil plug to screw in fully. Ours is a bit longer than the OE plug and the magnet would come into contact with this panel

Asking this here as I’m sure other M2C owners may be contemplating getting this bolt.

Cheers mate!

Thanks for the kind words! It really means alot!

Yes it should absolutely fit your 2019 m2c, because the m2, m2c, and 2014+ s55 engines with the aluminium oil pans all have the same parts and baffles. So in this regard Turner's website is completely wrong, it's unfortunate their support wasn't able to get you the correct answer but it happens - since they deal with ALOT of cars and ALOT of different manufacturers as well.

Anyways here is the proof:

This is the oil pan on my n55 m2:

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=11_5919

This is the oil pan on your 2019 m2c:
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=11_5919

If you look at item number 1 they share the same exact part numbers.

Now here is an image of the inside of the pan, if you look at the image you can see the oil drain bolt in that little square cut out for the oil pick up tube. What you'll notice is that there is nothing above the drain bolt to obstruct a longer bolt. So you don't need to worry about the drain bolt being a bit longer, there is plenty of additional clearance there.

Here is the ebay link if you want to see more images: https://www.ebay.com/itm/225312829217

But I can tell you right now it will fit, all these aluminium S55 pans and baffles are the same, and there is nothing in that area that will prevent a longer bolt from threading in the whole way.

F87source - you are a ROCK STAR for this community!!!

Ordered quite a bit from Turner Motorsport, and I always found them helpful, knowledgeable and professional, however, on this occasion…they weren’t able to validate that their own design Titanium Magnetic drain bolt will fit a 2019 M2 Competition oil pan …even after referring them to this particular thread. Sad Panda 🐼 indeed…

Given how popular recent S55 models were, unsure why they didn’t double check fitment and update their website…I am certain their inaccurate website description turned off many S55 owners from purchasing it.

Oh well…regardless, I will keep that bolt in my order given your solid proof!

Cheers mate - I owe you ein Bier mein Freund!!

Haha, glad I could help!

I will reach out to my contacts at Turner and hopefully they can get it sorted out so no one else will get confused.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea how much proportion does the magnetic particles make up among all the debris and sludge circulating in the oil system and will it be reduced over time?

I used to use a magnetic drain plug of this kind with my previous car, Evo9 which was equipped with fully steel 4G63 engine. I kept on seeing small amount of particles caught by the plug when I changed the oil twice a year for 15 years.
I just wonder it’s the case as well with aluminum engines like one we have in F87.

I don't have any clue about the total proportion of magnetic particles vs. total debris/sludge, but I can tell you that the magnetic drain plug will catch some magnetic sludge on it. Last year when I did my oil change there was indeed a thin grey layer covering the plug, I'll get an image of it this year when I do my oil change. But if you want, you can scroll through the earlier pages and you'll see some other images I posted of other bmw n5x and s55 engines and what their magnetic drain plugs were able to catch and it was similar to mine.

So in regards to what's magnetic on this car the answer is alot, even though the block is aluminum. The n55 m2 has iron cylinder lines which can wear down slowly over time during normal use and that produces magnetic dust. The rods and crank shaft are forged steel so those too can wear down slowly over time and produce magnetic dust. The timing chain, cams, valvetronic worm gear, eccentric shaft etc are also steel and will wear slowly over time and those too will produce magnetic dust.

So yes magnetic particles are generated on this aluminum block engine due to the normal wear and tear of other steel components.

I have a M2C, been running the turner magnetic drain plug and have completed one oil change with it so far. Caught a bit of gray gunk on the end of the plug like F87source had mentioned. No issues and definitely recommend.

Thank you for your diligence!
