I just traded my BLNR for a 1973 GMT Pepsi 1675 with a very nice case (bevels are still present).
Many of the old watches have been polished so much that they actually lose the case lines. The bevels are completely gone. This watch has strong bevels and a nice light patina on the dial and hands. The bezel is faded to a soft red and blue. I'm trying to get in on the upswing. I basically got almost what I paid for my BLNR on the trade. Once the market corrects, the BLNR should go down, but the 1675 should stay or go up slightly.
Very pleased with another classic watch in the fold.

Silver/wht gold seems kind of understated for diamonds-on-dial (but I confess I don't care for gems anywhere on a watch, so not the target audience).

Have any of you guys/gals sent your Rolex in for service? I'm coming up on 5 years of ownership and trying to decide whether it's necessary. If you did, how long did it take and how much did it cost?

I did; 5 year service.

My servicing was a bit pricey (I think around $850 if I remember) because i had chipped the sapphire crystal and they needed to replace it.

Watch came back looking brand new (I actually had to check the serial number because i thought they gave me a legit new watch...)

I popped into Rolex's UK servicing headquarters this week in St.James' Square (London).
I wanted a price for my Datejust service.
Was told £500 GBP and would take 5-6 weeks.

My watch is 15 years old now, but service prices seem to have gone up considerably, I recall my last service in 2011 was 'only' £240 GBP, direct with Rolex too.

Although 5 years is the recommended, if your watch is keeping good time and there's nothing else you want looked at, I'd leave it a couple more years. Just my opinion, though of course some will want to keep in line with Rolex's guidance.

Not necessarily on topic, but I was at the St. James Rolex service center this week too!

I somehow bent the small link under the clasp and needed it replaced. Cost £63.24 and I had my watch back in 15 minutes. Friendly service center, and it was nice sitting and reading the Rolex and Tudor look books/catalogues!

That's for sure! haha (and they're actually nice too, unlike some of the staff in certain boutiques, who are a bit ... snooty (for lack of a better word)

just depends on how well its running.

I work on watches as a side business and ive had 20-30yr old rolex come in keeping great time and just needing a simple clean, lube regulate, and ive had 5yr old rolex come in needing a full service with movement parts replaced.

Rolex prices are ~$500 and 1-2 month turn around. Independent Jewelers are in the $300 range and usually a month or less. Just depends if it matters to you to have rolex do it or not.
