Hissing noise around 3.5K RPM

Hello,

I have M2 LCI with 1700 miles and I get faint hissing noise while accelerating and reaching 3500 RPM. I feel it’s coming out from center AC vents. I keep my AC on auto all time. It’s 2/18 build and I picked it up in April. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Could it be the turbo? When I turn off, AC noise still exists.

Pretty sure that's the turbo by your description. Easy way to tell would be to hard accelerate and then let off, does the sound become more prominent? That said, do you have ASD disabled? I would be very surprised if you can hear the turbo with ASD on.

Drove the car today with and without climate control and i heard it with climat control on. Even though I have the A/C button off, noise was still there. I lowered the fan to lowest setting but that didn’t help. It’s really faint but I hope it won’t get worse. No mods and ASD is not disabled.

I am very confident you're just hearing the turbo.

Oh I have the FI 200cell downpipe. People like Fabspeed. They're all basically the same. Don't go catless. The most OEM one is the HJS Euro 6.

I too occasionally hear a hissing noise, very slight one. I know what turbo sucking air sounds like and that's not it I'm fairly certain.

I suspect something in the front speaker resonating with exhaust or engine noise.

I'm pretty sure this is intake noise. I have an SRI on another car and it sounds exactly the same (but louder).

it's your turbo spooling up. This sound is desired by car enthusiasts and if you listen to mclarens or the like you'll hear it too.

Ive always heard the turbo spool as a 'whine' or 'whisltle' rather than a hiss..That being said, I always heard turbo whine in my 135i; but never in my M2 even though ASD is bypassed for some reason.

Hey did anyone ever find this issue out? I have this same issue and yes I am also sure it’s not the turbo spool. Any help would be great.

Nope. Have it as well, gotten (more or less) used to it.

That’s so weird. It’s really bothersome for me. Has anyone potentially tried an aftermarket intake? Maybe that could help?

Aftermarket intakes don't help the car except in very few cases with much higher than stock power numbers.

I guess anything's possible, but I bought the car 2 years ago with 25kkm (15k miles) on it, it's had that ever since I bought it, and it hasn't gotten any worse since. 60kkm on it now (37k miles). I also did track the car a few times
Also, the noise is so subtle that it's possible many people have it and just don't hear it. Almost no one who was in my car heard the noise, unless I specifically pointed it out.
