The only way a very "few" cars were produced in Leipzig with factory Individual paint, was that they were first produced a complete car in Leipzig... then put on a truck to Garching/Munich... once in Garching the cars were taken apart and painted in the Individual color... then reassembled & delivered.

Some lucky few 1M's were built like this... but the Individual color option cost almost as much as the car! So I have heard. Some say only $20K extra... some say $50K, on a $60K car. That's a little bit mad if you ask me.

Btw M3's are made in Munich while M4's are made in Regensburg. And both factories do have Individual paint color options.

Dackel

When I spec'ed my 2016 M4, the Coupes were specifically being built in Munich. The Verts were being built elsewhere. (Has something changed?)

Although you could (can) get basic individual colors on the M4 Coupes built in Munich, they specifically shut down the availability of all the "Restricted" individual colors on the M4's (inc Fire Orange). The "restricted" colors are the 6-step paints which are harder to apply then usual and the older robots at the Munich plant just weren't up to the task. I was told the restricted colors would be unavailable until the robots at the Munich plant got upgraded...

Yes, you can get individual paint on an M4 Coup but try asking for Fire Orange and see what happens... (unless something has changed)

As far as I know the M4 Coupes are still being built in Munich... (...again, unless something has changed)

I only know of one Individual build with is the Austin Yellow car made for the mattress mogul.
It's wrapped, just saw it in person for a couple of days at advanced M school and checked it out. It was originally BSM, there are stickers on it for the detail shop that did the wrap, they also did a carbon fiber wrap on the roof panel. It looks really good in person also.

Nope this car was BSM, door jams tell the story in this case. My guess is they had a couple wrapped over the last year or so because they took on the continental sponsorship and orange is part of their pallet.

Not sure what individual paint costs as an option on a US car, but in Canada it is $5,000. Had LSB on my F30 and delivery sticker listed it as $5,000 option.

I do agree that, even at that price, it would have been nice to at least have the option on the M2.

You know what... I mixed the cars up. You are correct... M4 coupes are made in Munich... while the M3 sedan and M4 verts are made in Regensburg.

What folks fail to appreciate (I think), is that there is more than one category of "individual" paint.

- There are the "stock" individual paints you will often see listed as an actual vehicle build option

- There are the BMW "factory" individual paints that BMW is using on other models

- There are the "restricted" individual paints that BMW reserves for special models and applications and require specific approval for their usage. These are typically BMW reserved colors and may have special application challenges. (Fire Orange is in this category)

- Then there are the "true" individual colors that BMW will mix for you if you are willing to work for it. This is generally the category where the paint is to be matched to a lipstick color, etc. I believe you have to work directly with the Individual group at the "M-Studio" in Garching to get something like this done.

I worked directly with Individual at the M Studio to get my car done and they can do just about anything you want, to any car you want, as long as you can work directly with them and pay for it. They have a car on display in the studio where some guy wanted a "Salmon Skin" interior (made with real salmon skin). (I believe he was the owner of a large fishing fleet). They had to figure out how to dry, cure, preserve, and apply the skin - and the guy had to pay for the development. But if you have the time and money you can get almost anything done via the Individual folks a the M Studio. It starts with a trip to Germany to meet them...

I met with them FIRST and we worked to build out my M4 before I ever contacted anyone stateside. After hooking up with BMWNA, my final step was to find a local salesperson to simply fill out the paperwork. This is the reverse of how most folks try to get an Individual order approved but it was VERY efficient. I knew BEFORE I went to BMWNA or my local rep that the build was already good to go- 'Cause I worked it out in person!

Can we get an editor to fix that misleading story caption on the home page?

It clearly says #limerockm2 right on the bumper. Not sure why people are calling it fire orange.

Fire Orange was the paint color for the E92 M3 Lime Rock Park Edition. From the photos, this wrap appears almost exactly the same color as Fire Orange...

I figured it was something along those lines.

Agreed, horrible name for an orange colour.

I sent this to my sales guy immediately after seeing this post. I wish the M2 was available in orange from the factory. Alas, he told me it was, in fact, a white M2 wrapped in orange.
