Crashed my 2018 M2. Advice needed
Hi, first time poster here. I feel absolutely terrible about this. It's just a car after all but I love it so much and it's brought me a lot of happiness while I've had it. Due to my own error, when I was turning on a curved ramp to get on a highway my rear wheels lost grip and the drivers side rear end hit the side of the ramp causing me to spin and hit the other side. Thankfully no one else was involved and I sustained no injuries. I've attached pictures of the damage. The car was towed back to my parking garage.
The car starts fine and no air bags were deployed. The drivers side front wheel had a connector broken. The rear bumper is falling off and the drivers side mirror was smashed. The drivers side wheels are also completely dinged up. I'm not able to get under the car and look so I think it's hard to asses the full damage. This is my first time getting in a crash and I'm okay now but want to have some idea about how this will go forward. I'd love to get back on the road again (safer and wiser of course). I have Progressive insurance and there's a Certified BMW Collision Center near me that I am going to try to get my car taken to after the weekend. Any advice or just words of wisdom is appreciated |

Welcome! Heck of an introduction! Glad you are alright and that the M2 can be fixed.
By the looks of the pics it will be an expensive job. Make sure they only use new OEM parts. Your estimate may list a lot of “LKQ” parts. That means like kind and quality. Stop in the body shop and ask them what parts they plan to use. The insurance company will want the cheapest option which may be used/refurbished, but if the repair shop can only find new OEM then that’s what will be approved. If you want a second opinion from a great body shop and can get the car to I55 and RT 83 call Aspen Body Shop. Real craftsmen. Good luck! I hope you are back on the road soon! |

I definitely want to make sure OEM & new parts are used when possible. Thanks for introducing me to LKQ. |

Dang man thats rough, glad you are ok though!
Really sucks but in the end, the m2 is just a "thing" and things can always be replaced. What is the total list of damage do you think? Wheel - Driver/Front Wheel - Driver/Rear Wheel - Passenger/Front Lower control arm?? - Driver/front Tie Rod?? - Driver/front Side mirror - Driver Rear fender damage - Driver Rear fender damage - Passenger Rear bumper Bumper diffuser Exhaust Tail light - Driver Tail light - Passenger Trunk lid It looks like your front coolers are damaged and potential core support damage Potential frame damage I'm sorry man, that looks like a very expensive repair.....

Damn, you didn't mess around! I'll be interested in hearing what your insurance says, these days, they seem to total out a car with very little damage. Glad you are okay.

Doesn't seem to bad at first glance, but when you start looking, most of the body panels are effected, along with rims, suspension, and underhood items. My guess is, being an OG, easily totaled.

Thanks for the input. Yeah if it is totaled I’ll sit on the money for a bit and get a G82 M4 in a year or so

Update on this: Car was declared total loss by Progressive. Shop estimated the parts alone would be $42K. Progressive valued the car at $49K and I just got my check. Thanks for the concern and well wishes. I’m still young and I’m sure this won’t be my last BMW 🙂

I had an accident several years ago in a 2014 Evo X, and it looked a lot worse than your damage, and not totaled (23K vs 42K). I guess BMW's are just more expensive to repair and it depends on what was damaged. |

Sorry to hear it. I had a not so dissimilar experience with my z4 which is what landed me in the m2. It sucks to lose something you care about even if it is just a thing. Hope your next auto is a winner as well!
