Completely agree. In the long term, I might prefer a low milage 1M; and this will be the car collectors are after.

The 1 seems to have been the test case to justify the M2. And development seems very similar (excluding 54/55 debate), with a higher production level for the M2.

With that said, there is no way I can reasonably justify a low-milage 4 year old car which will be a DD when there is a perfect substitute.

On the other hand, if I had a 1M like you, I doubt I could make the case for the M2?
I agree on the part about the 1M due to being limited number. But if the M2 ends up being the better drivers car (and it should be based on dimensions vs the shorter 1M) then I know which one I would prefer to have. It's for this reason I wish the M2 does end up being limited in some way so it takes over the 1M from a desirability and better car to drive sense.

Scott26 more than suggested there will be no vent there as it would serve no purpose. We shall know not soon enough.

Nice find. Has these been on all of the mules? What I'm getting at is I hope this makes it to the base M2 and not reserved for the CSL only

Exactly how do you define a "better drivers car"? The short wheelbase, live rear end is what makes the 1m a blast to drive. Did you see Clarksons face when driving it? Not saying its the best car but bigger is not better.

Yes it is never said it was exactly the same the picture was only to compare the cars front with the m235i, Nor did i say anything bad about the M2 i think it looks awesome.

Could it be that the M2 is also lowered compared to the standard M235i, Even though the angle ain't 100% identical it feels like the M235i sits higher on its Original wheels then the M2, Witch makes me want to lower my M235i even more!!!

The Front end on the M2 is gonna have a lot more lines around the lights then the M235i when you zoom in you can see all kind of different lines going on makes me believe the M2 is gonna be a real mean machine in both looks and performance. Love it cant wait till the camo drops !!!

There are many things, which I won't mention as this thread will go off topic but My comment was focusing on the handling/feel component. I reckon the M2 will be the more focused car. If there is a perfect size out of 1M, M2 and M4 I reckon it's M2.
1m is known to be a bit snappy in the higher limits.

hmm I must be the only one concerned about the curb weight

It will be a deal-breaker.. if it's close to M3/4 weight then I'd rather pay a little more and get a car with a proper M engine. Everything else is trivial.

Hello guys!

Being new here I just wanted to post a pic about this specific item by comparison. Thats the main reason that made me sign in, as a potential buyer and follower of the M2 posts.

Cheers

Corvette with the same options will be 7-10k more expensive. And you lose 2 seats and refinement. So the comparison isn't that great.
Can't compare German built to American. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble.

lol
I don't know how you guys are seeing vents

they are clearly just body lines. Not vents.. If they are vents, you would have seen holes there already.

and if is functional vents, doesn't make sense for them to tape up the open area during testing

The rear "vents" on the base M2 may not be functional, but rather house the rear reflectors like the X5M and X6M. It will still look great and really aggressive.

There may not be a vent there. But there is surely some aggressively defind creases that align with the vent of the GT6. Even if there's no vent, it will look like a beast.

People saying that it won't look different enough from the M235i need new glasses....

This car will be the most aggressive looking M.

GREAT find.

Jesus. This car keeps looking better and better in my mind. I don't expect it to be a vent, but damn, its going to have a nasty looking profile with those creases. I can't wait.

If you've been following development you'd see how unapologetic BMW is being with this car. Exclusive seats but really its just blue stitching and regular 2 series sport seats, probably no carbon fiber roof, probably no DCT calibration settings, 4 colors, no bmw individual, probably 1 interior, the list goes on and on. Some people just have some really lofty expectations. I think if BMW limits what it puts forth with this car, and does not cater to the softer, more posh side of their customer base, this can end up being the raw, character filled driving experience that the 1M provided.

Everyone else can just buy an M3/4. Which is what they probably want you to do. And you're right they probably won't have an issue selling these (unless dealer markups make an ugly return), but I would imagine allocations will be scarce and they won't make nearly as many of these as they do M3/4s.

Just so everyone knows what they're going to look like, the front fender vents (per Scott26) are shown here (Man, the thing looks hot in yellow!! ):
