waiting for a baby, what to buy after m2c?
hey all,
I read a lot of threads on forums already but i would love to hear from ppl who own m2. I ordered m3 but my priorities changed and i dont want to spend 100k right now Im thinking about m340i or maybe i just get the x3/x5 to not sacrifice any comfort? If I go m340 route i hope i would be able to track it 2 weekends a year … is that doable with the stock car? I drove m340 3 years ago and it was great car, but after when i got into m2 i felt something special and i knew ill buy it right away. I didnt have that feeling with any car i can afford before m2 thank you all for comments! |

Lots of people put baby seats in an M2(C)s. You really don’t need to get rid of it.

I have had my MC2 for almost 6 years with 2 young kids. No issues.
Dont be one of those types that once having 1 kid that you need a 8 passenger vehicle...

For those with kids, can a front passenger sit comfortably with a rear facing convertible car seat behind them? I'm thinking about trading my m2 for a m3 so that the wife can be comfy with the car seat in the back

X3 m40i would be a spectacular small family car. Super solid engine, great transmission, great interior quality and tech. I’d recommend against the full on X3M but I think the m40i would be perfect for you
If you still want an M car and don’t need an SUV, an F80 M3 would give you the space and practicality you need |

Two car seats in the back of my M2. The wife's x5 is really comfy though. If you get one make sure to get the air suspension. We've had one with and without and I wouldn't go back.
I wouldn't want my M2 to be the primary kid hauler, but it could be done. I take both of my kids places. Swim lessons, dentist, school, etc. Sure, you have to climb into the back to buckle them, but it's not that big of a deal. Trunk will be a little small if you want a substantial stroller.

Do I need to be the one to say it? Just get a minivan with automatic sliding side doors and you will love it when it’s a pouring rainstorm outside. Keep the other cars for toys.

Interestingly, I had the chance to experience a fully loaded 22 X3M Competition for a day, and I was quite surprised by its stiffness, even in comfort mode. I found the M2 to be more comfortable. |

M2C here with a convertible car seat currently in it's rear facing position. It's a fairly large car seat so I have to set the passenger seat almost all the way forward but I can fit in front of it at 6 feet tall. The way the footwell is designed it is fairly comfortable too. If I sat behind myself I'd have even more legroom and my head doesnt touch the roof. My wife usually sits behind me with an empty passenger seat up front. My stroller and infant car seat also fits in the trunk and can even pickup some groceries in a pinch. That's me, my wife, baby(in car seat), a stroller and infant car seat in the trunk, and groceries + 40lb dog food all in the M2. The interior packaging for a car of this size baffles my mind still.

Id probably get a macan over an X3. I also read nothing but complaints about the stiffness. That being said, babies tend to like car movement. My first had to be driven in the car seat at times to get her to sleep. Then we'd pull her out of the car in the car seat and set the car seat in the crib with her still strapped in. I'm sure that's a no-no now, but she survived.

The added benefit for the F87C or all F87 cars is that it's surprisingly roomy in the back. Like you can be an adult and actually fit back there, if you're going to use the back seats, it's not an absolutely horrible place to be.

Four car seats:
2 car seats in M2 (rear and front facing) 2 car seats in X7 (rear and front) Probably the best of both worlds and both the cars can do a good job and of course the X7 is in a different zip code for comfort and performance (v8 tt) but M2 makes the car rides special - great for school drop offs, short commutes but will take the X7 anytime for drives > 1 hour. |

I now have a Q5 for a boring dad vehicle, but I still keep a car seat in the M2C back seat. It’s pretty spacious back there and easy to get my kid in and out.

If its your only car then personally I'd get something else, 4 doors. I have 2 under 3 year olds and the front racing seat is fine behind the passenger seat and thats all i keep in it just incase. But the rear facing seat i tested and its just an absolute pain to get in and out. So really i just take the kids out in the Macan most of the time. If it was my only car i'd be switching the M2 for an M3.

The B58 is also an incredible engine and much more adept at everyday use (imo) than the S58 (i.e. low rpm torque curve is incredible whereas the S58 really needs to be close to 3k rpms before serious torque arrives, a good bit higher rpm than the S55 also), and the ZF8, at least in the tuning it has on a 2024 M340i, is pretty amazing (and I hate automatic transmissions, haven't ever had one for my primary car since I started driving in 1974). I have the sport individual mode set with engine in sport plus, transmission in sport plus, adaptive suspension in sport, steering in comfort, and I'm beyond impressed with this car on mountain roads nearby. I have to admit I had a totally ignorant dismissal attitude about the M340i until that experience at the PC changed everything. ...if had just been available with a 6MT, I think my wife would call it the perfect car. At least she can drive the M2C anytime she wants. The M340i is dramatically more comfortable than the M2C btw...it just swallows up pavement that beats you up in the M2C, even with the M Adaptive suspension in sport mode. We tried to go the SUV route, but it was too big a compromise on driving fun (we looked at the X3M, X4MC and also the M40i versions of those) as they are so huge and cumbersome. Far more vehicle than either of us would want unless it was just an extra car. I think I would choose the X3 M40i out of all of those for typical use though if I had to.

We got the e46 when our first was born. Served as the family car with 2 kids until he was 6-7. Then became my daily to work. Best family car we owned. Biggest regret was selling it, should have kept as a third car but didnt need one then.
