Differential whine

Anybody get a whine from there differential at certain speeds?

I have a pretty loud and distinct whine when cruising at 90km ....if I’m doing 120 and let it decel on it’s own , whine comes on at exactly 90km .

I read a few posts in other forums where the gear mesh might be off or some casting could be still on the gears .

My cars a 2020 with 1100 kms on it . Probably bring it up at break in service see what happens .

Mine is a 2020, approx 5300 miles, and I've heard the whine ever since I got rid of the ASD. Mine starts at right around 50-55 mph, and by 65 mph it's gone. Only really prevalent when I'm around 10% throttle, if I give it some more pedal it goes away. Doesn't really bother me, tons of less performance oriented cars have more drivetrain noise.

Only happened during long driving or on a hot day

Looks like we might have a common issue popping up. I want to bring it up to the dealer , but part of me doesn’t want them test driving my car lol

Yeah i think the next question would be what your car history is. I dont hear it in mine (2020 M2C) but in both the S2000s i've owned you could hear it, as well as the BRZ i had.

Exactly. I've heard MUCH louder trannies in G35/350z's. It's nothing.

You probably don't have enough miles on it yet being that you just got it. I don't recall mine doing it until 1500-2000 miles in, but it could also be that I couldn't hear it over the stupid ASD. Bypass/code that out, and you might hear it, either way I HIGHLY doubt it warrants taking the car into the dealer...

There's tons of moving parts, and it all has to support way more than stock power, otherwise it will eventually fail. Unless it's clunking or exhibiting odd behavior, I wouldn't bother.

Driveline Whine on M cars are due to its active locking differential, it's been a thing for many years and the topic has been discussed, ad nauseam, in the M4 section..

Forward to 6:15, this dude mentions it:
