I use Car Play with the scroll wheel or Siri exclusively in my M2C (2020). Same goes for iDrive. It's just easier while driving to me.

Just when I was ready to pull the trigger with kubax86 I started experiencing loss of connectivity with my phone and CarPlay along with the frontal collision warning system throwing errors (not both at the same time). Fearing the dealership may update firmware/software I will have to wait.

In the meantime, what version iPhone are you guys using where you are not experiencing latency with full screen CarPlay? From my research it appears I would not be happy with the performance of my iPhone 7 Plus which does not experience latency on split screen but may on full screen.

Iphone 8 here. Works ok.

My iPhone 6 struggled on spilt screen. Zero issues with a XS on full-screen.

I went for Apple car play from the factory when I order my car and it’s listed on the delivery documents and when I run the VIN but as it’s a US spec (’17) M2 which has never been to the US, Connected Drive and Apple car play never worked. After reading this thread, I contacted kubax86 and asked if there was any way to make car play work. He came back with “no problem” and as of last Sunday, I have full screen car play!

Not only that, but to make ‘full screen’ work, kubax86 updated my software. He also update me to iDrive6!

Watching him move around my laptop screen as he coded the car, you can tell he knows what he’s doing and he was great to work with…I had a WiFi problem and had to extend my network to my garage which ended up take me about 40 minute but he was very patient throughout. Once I got the WiFi sorted, I think the whole process took about 2 hours but with zero problems. Overall, I very happy; if you need something coded remotely, suggest reaching out to kubax86 as he codes other stuff also.

Bought a iPhone SE to leave in the boot, works pretty well. Some connectivity issues occasionally but it looks improved with the latest ios beta.

I did the fullscreen + carplay upgrade with Kubax86. It went really smooth as he did the remote coding for the upgrade on my NBTEvo J. Upgrade was to P.

My car does not have the Wifi Antenna in it so the Carplay connection is not strong. I was warned that it may not work very well before going ahead. Unfortunately being in Canada, Amazon does not sell the aftermarket Wifi Antenna. So I ordered one from my BMW dealer. They said that there were none of them in Canada and had to order it from Germany.

If I am patient I can hold the phone close to the head unit and it will pick up the CarPlay. Once it has the connection I can put the phone in the cupholders and it stays connected. I am looking forward to getting the Wifi antenna as it will be great when it connects properly. Overall very happy with the upgrade and the price was right. It's great that we have an option to upgrade this as BMW told me that there was simply no way to add Carplay to my car. Thanks Kubax86

Just for any UK prospective buyers - ordered my car last week, the only tickbox that wasn't on there that I do want this time around, was CarPlay - I got BMW to throw it in at the final part of the deal negotiation. It needs extended bluetooth kit (which it did have)....can be coded by BMW techs and is £265 for 3yrs or £295 for lifetime, which is what I'm getting. Sounds like it varies region to region.
