Rented a M2C at Circuit of the Americas
My father-in-law recently did a track event at Circuit of the Americas in a M2C and a Cayman R. He thought they’d be pretty close in lap times as the track rewards both low HP through turn 1-11 and high HP through the two long straights but the M2C ended up being 4 seconds faster. He was actually impressed by the M2C.
He did a voiceover of the driving line on his original cold lap out as it was slow paced if anyone is interested. He’s heading next to Sebring to instruct for Winterfest thru PCA and then over to Daytona to instruct for Ferrari club. I hope to hit Cota in the fall...enjoy! |

Nice! I did COTA with BMW in an M6 Grand Coupe and M5, way back in 2013. My max was 145 behind a lead instructor. 160 on the back straight is fast.

What's even cooler is that someone showed up in a McLaren Senna with the aero package which is a $2M car with the Gulf livery, an IMSA prototype, and a Ferrari F1 car from a couple of years ago for a track day. These were all private cars which is a bit nuts...check those videos out on the channel too if you're interested

He's been doing it for 20+ yrs so he's gotten better over time I just don't have the time do so many track events to build up any skill level. I just started doing track events after taking a 6-7yr breather due to life, lol. I'll pass along your praise...I'm sure he'll appreciate it!

COTA is big league. Entering braking zones at 120 is one thing but 160 is ugh…. A lot.
No wonder COTA boys reach for the AP kits. I may have missed it but what prep was done on that M2C? Pads/Fluid? Showroom stock? It didn’t look like they mention that on the rental company’s site. |

I was in your Father-in-law's group and remember being impressed at that car's ability to get out of the corners. Definitely has a lot of experience under his belt. The car is not "stock" but I'm not sure what's done to it. It has 763M or other aftermarket wheels (I don't know what tire), a cage, looks like seats, and an m-perf wing. I'm sure it's got a decent pad and fluid. Who knows what else though.
I'm curious what his Aim solo said for max gps speed though—160 is [I]not[/] stock. His time of 2:33.xx is really impressive to me, but my lap was ~1s quicker but with a GPS top speed of 151.6, so that 160 might have been indicated, not actual. Thanks for sharing. |
