This past week I had a chance to attend the Bimmerworld race school and also work with Randy Pobst during a subsequent open track event. Seeing the master at work, getting in-car instructions and then doing my best to apply the lessons learned shaved 5 seconds off my best time. Here is a video of Randy doing 2:09s (with traffic), and me running 10s.

What did you have to do suspension wise to fit the 275/295 combination?

I'm pretty new to this and know there's still time in the car and me. I think I'm surprised that the very wide exit at T6 my Miata-driving instructor showed was as quick as it was. I typically lift a tad to nose in for the 2nd apex of 6 and keeping right to setup T7. Anyway, wondering if I can get into the 34s on this setup—I like the challenge of trying to get the most out of the stock tire sizes. I had a great instructor the 2nd day who really pushed me on a couple corners and it's just unfortunate track conditions didn't cooperate to give me a shot at bettering Saturday's time.

That’s a super solid time for a 2nd time on track!

Not sure how I feel about that line through 6, never seen it before in all the events I’ve done there.

Lots of time to pick up in the esses and through turn 8 up to 9 - take all the curb and if there’s no turtles there at the apex of 3-4-5 you can straddle the rumble strips and really straighten the corners. Straddle the curb on 8 going up the hill for a much faster/straighter line across 9.

Thanks. I cleaned up some of those lines last month and took .7s off. There's a 34 in the car/me in it's current state and I'd like to run it before switching the setup.

Those new lines look killer! Definitely another couple of seconds in there with some sticky R-Compound/200TW tires. How many days do you think you'll get out of the Goodyear Supercars? I'm considering the Falken RT660 in factory size on some OG M2 wheels but hadn't considering the Goodyears for track work at all.

I have one 2:36.xx under my belt in my outgoing 981.1 Boxster S on RE71's with a whole lot of 2:37s. The M2C is going to be a whole other experience, almost 100 more horsepower but also 4-500 more pounds I think. The Boxster has no guts coming out of the slow 2nd gear corners so I'm excited for some punch but there's going to be a lot more oversteer to think about where the 981 is always smooth and in control.

Hoping at COTA I'll be faster in the M2C since speed is a factor there much moreso than somewhere like MSR Houston.

Thanks. The previous 2:36 was an oddity as it happened to be my fastest lap of the weekend, but also not the typical lines I would take. I don't know how many days I'll get out of the Supercars, but judging from the wear after 4 days and how much I beat on them, I'd expect them to heat cycle out—I'm for sure putting 2 more days on them with Chin in 2 weeks. Take what I say with an * as I just don't have any experience in which to compare them.

You look very smooth . I look forward to hearing your post-track thoughts, but I think you'll find on stock sized tires the M2 will be more of a handful, not in an out-of-control way mind you, but a challenging and fun way. The front is under-sized for the car's weight over the front axle—trailing the brake into slow corners can give a good amount of bite, but you can't mask that on sweeping corners. Then on the rear, you've got the combination of still a narrow-ish tire + a fist-full of torque down low so traction. Drivers of less torque-endowed cars are able to stand on the throttle much earlier. I equate it to drag racing—I may have a higher trap, but my ET is trash .

Holler if you'll be at COTA any time soon.

Forgot to mention, nice stickers—A-bahn, the 'ring, TWS—solid .

Hopefully soon, been a year and a half since I’ve seen a track. Seeing photos of the PCA Schnell Fest event there this weekend made me miss it big time. Not sure I’ll be able to sneak in another event with the 981 before it goes and the M2C comes and then the break-in is going to take awhile.

Ha thanks on the stickers, have them on both sides for the tracks I’ve driven. Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca are on the bucket list but they’re a long ways away to get to.

It was just repaved over the winter. Grip is amazing. I was roughly 4 seconds faster on what should be equivalent tires (A052 last year vs RT660).

Big success today. I’ve been aiming for 7:55 BTG for the last 2 years, and today I got my ‘Ring time down to 7:52.4. Will post some video later. Not the smoothest, and still some time lost in a few places. Optimal time was projected to be 7:47 by Garmin Catalyst.

Hmm, looking at the resolution of the export video, it doesn't look 1080 at all. I wonder why, it looks very high def on the screen of the Catalyst. I need to do some research.

We go back home in 2 weeks, and I can enter that plane knowing I didn't leave much on the table.

Thanks for supporting my vision with tips and information since the start ZM2! Much obliged.
