Mercy sakes!! You should have posted some pics. Not really clear where you went - OR WHAT YOU ATE!!
All kidding aside, truly an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. I was getting a new crown at the dentist this morning - had a 15 min break while they buffed it out. Ran across your post, read that it was long and dove in.....Can't be longer than 15 mins, right? The app on my phone let in a few pics, then crapped out. Re-boot. Same thing. Got home and fired up the ipad. Pics loaded, settled in. The whole Bimmerpost app crapped out. Several times. Time to get the big boy desk top out. Crikey, what a journey. And then we are treated to Banff, Vancouver Island, Jasper and the prairies. AND, a side trip to Rome! Plus Super Cars. A couple of comments: * The Alps always look incredible * I honeymooned in Banff. Decided I was going to go there when I was 9. * Spent a lot of time on Vancouver Island. Been down Hwy 4 to Port Alberni, never as far as Tofino. Wow! It's now on the list. Thank you. * Spent lots of time in Whistler. Your pic with the river captures the Village. * Did you ever just stop for a plain old ham sandwich?? On either trip? * I take it you went out the top at Whistler and over to Kamloops on your way to Jasper. Almost got divorced on Day 4 coming back to Lake Louise from Jasper. I kept stoppng the car to take pictures. "ANOTHER EFFING PICTURE??" Yes, dear. You'll thank me when we get home. * Many great pics in your travelogue. A couple that have nothing to do with anything, The Coliseum and Alter of the Fatherland, are spectacular. And, anything in the Canadian Rockies. * Hey, thanks for the shout out. Glad you were entertained during your convalescence. Sorry there were so few pics. Next time I'll be better. The bar has been set. * My goal is to someday drive across the continent and get out of the car in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Then take a different route back. * I'm with you - put lots of miles on these cars. Anyway, great job. Finished up in just under 2 hours. My wife was working in the other room and I kept calling her in, "Hey, comere and lookit this one! Jesus, I hate this guy." I'll probably need to go back a few times. Enjoy. * Oh, yeah.....pizza much? Last edited by snowbimmer; 05-04-2021 at 07:49 PM.. |

I was hoping to do Toronto to Victoria, Victoria down the West Coast of the US to LA, and then drive all over the middle of the US making my way back to Toronto in 2020 (before the pandemic was a thing). I think you couldn't go wrong doing that in either direction (doesn't really matter if you go clockwise or counterclockwise, unless you're timing it with the weather). Hmm so yeah, I'd probably say to just time it with the weather, and if it's not during a pandemic lol, time it with events/concerts/shows/people you're visiting along the way, and use that to make your decision perhaps? It's great to have the flexibility, but the truth is I'm a lot more productive at a proper desk with reliable internet. And it's also one of those things where you're never 100% working or 100% on vacation, so they're both kind of mediocre...I'm not complaining though, I wouldn't change a thing, but it can sometimes seem more fun from the outside than it actual is, especially when work is busy and you're trying to book accommodation, find food, etc. If one good thing comes from the pandemic though, I hope more companies and jobs realize that a lot of work can be done anywhere, and hopefully more people can adventure and explore this planet while also getting some work done! Just crossed 37,000km (just under 23,000 miles). Hoping to continue ramping that up! Quote:
If you're ever planning to head up this way let me know, maybe I'll join you for the journey out to Halifax! I was hoping to get there last summer (never been east of Quebec) but the borders were closed to the provinces outside of the Maritimes due to Covid. Hoping to make that drive too someday!

I can't blame BMW entirely, I actually think the dealerships deserve most of the blame. I've been casually searching for a 3-series and these schmucks will only give 0.9% off MSRP on a custom order, whereas their own inventory they'll do 8+%. Dealers did everything in their power to dissuade buyers from European delivery. Regardless, it's one of those legacy/brand-defining things that BMW should have kept going. Porsche still makes 911s even though they are no longer the company's cash cow, Lexus still makes the LS even though it's likely a money loser, etc.

Outstanding post, thank you for taking the time to write and share!
Having visited many of the places in Europe you visited I really enjoyed seeing the photos. Does make me sad thinking about the adventures I've had in the past in Europe and really long for a time when we can travel and live like we used to. Thanks again!

Thanks for posting. Enjoyed seeing Italy vicariously via this post. I had an epic Italy trip booked for May 2020 which as you can guess had to be postponed due to covid.
Are you a workout fiend or somehow have the metabolism of a 16 year old teenager? All that pasta, pizza etc looks delicious. As do the mountain passes. Good for you racking up the kilometers on some epic roads. I still have fond memories of my Euro delivery. It truly was a great program.

Fantastic post! Gotta say, super jealous of the Euro Delivery part. It was something I had always wanted to do - was finally ready last year, and got my order in for an M4 in March 2020. Fast forward a couple months, as the virus took hold of the world: BMW cuts production and cancels my order, then cancels Euro Delivery as a whole.
On the plus side, I found a car that was basically identical to what I was going to order (rare/impossible spec), waiting for me in a showroom in Ottawa. All things considered, it definitely didn't turn out too badly! Very much enjoyed reading everything through, particularly because your Euro Delivery trip covered basically all the spots I was going to visit. Thanks for sharing, and greetings from Vancouver!

Good Lord I ignored your warning about lottt of pictures and lenghty thread white2abbit
That write-up is epic and the ED pictures are truely stunning, especially mountain passes in Switzerland and Austria. But even better: Picture gallore of your cross-Canada roadtrip! My wife and I spent 3 weeks roadtripping from Calgary -Jasper/Banff -Vancouver Island -Vancouver so it was great to see the „been there" places here. Enjoy your ride and keep more coming!! Cheers from 🇩🇪 to 🇨🇦 |

What an absolutely wonderful post/story. My thoughts:
- Just waiting for somebody to quote your ENTIRE post with pictures - Took hours to read through and look at the whole post. Loved it. - No need in the slightest to apologize for any parts "getting off track". Loved it all. - You've got me absolutely beat on my own PCD and road trip journal I just completed (in my signature) - I lived in Europe for 4 years, it was wonderful to see the sights in your very good pictures. Prague particularly - Like many, I always planned to eventually do an ED. That's all gone for all of us now. Your thread fills some of our dreams, and good to see that this experience is captured for posterity - Lovely food pictures. That spaghetti carbonara made the stomach rumble - Loved seeing you go through the Rocky Mountains, particularly Banff, one of my favorite places on the planet - I too have a 3000GT VR-4, that I still own. Beautiful car! (sorry, this is sounding an awful like it's all about me!) So glad that you made this, and I look forward to following any future trips you make.

What an incredible post! Glad to hear you had a blast on your ED trip. It looks like your Canadian Road Trip was just as exciting and is one I'm hoping to do in my M2C as well!
