I had 718 CGTS, not GT4. That stated, I tested 981 GTS/GT4 with NAF6 . . . found the 718 T4 to be superior performance-wise. Please do not interpret what I stated as anything not intended. . . 981 GTS/GT4 are fantastic sport cars! I have not driven a 718 GTS 4.0 or GT4, so I cannot speak with any authority on how either performs . . . I have zero doubt they are both fantastic. FYI, 718 GTS 4.0 and GT4 weigh about 3,150 and 3,200 lbs, respectively . . . while the M2C weighs about 3,600 lbs. ///AVM P.S. If BMW does not hurry up and get me my G80 chassis, I might just go to plan B ! Last edited by ///AVM; 12-04-2020 at 02:57 PM.. |

If this were a Porsche forum I would happily provide you more detail . . . when it comes to the M2 subform on Bimmerpost, it seems there is an infatuation with the GT4, particularly among the M2 CS crowd. So, in brief, I hope this helps you . . . 981 GTS and GT4 (NAF6) 718 GTS (T4) 718 GTS 4.0 and GT4 (NAF6) The Python Green Porsche I showed in prior post (plan B) is a 718 GT4. . . as is pic below. ///AVM |

Nothing wrong with aspiring to own a Porsche sport car. . . they are simply the best. I am on a Porsche holiday . . . enjoying what BMW has to offer. Love sharing the enthusiasm with brothers, whether Porsche or BMW. ///AVM |

Curious why would you consider a GT4 over a spyder, both are same cars except spyder is a convertible

Problem with 718 GT4 is the gearing is bonkers, you can barely use 3rd gear on the roads and forget about 4th/5th/6th!

This matter of 'long gearing' comes up a lot with Porsche. When I drive - whether Porsche or BMW - I want my car wrung out. Getting in or out of any particular gear has never been a concern, nor objective. So, even in my M2C, I live in 2nd and 3rd gears on the common roadways . . . just as I did with my 718 CGTS, and would if I owned a GT4. My daily commute to the hospital includes a 12 mile stretch on I-95. During that highway stretch I live in 4th gear, occasionally shifting into 5th gear. So, I am left to conclude that some drivers enjoy driving 'wrung out,' while others do not. I am not going to suggest there is a right or wrong. However, given the common complaint about 'long gearing' in various Porsche models, it seems most drivers prefer to get into a higher gear than live higher in the rev band (wrung out). . . I prefer that latter. ///AVM |

One thing I will say about driving the M235i that has me 'concerned' about the G80 M3C is the electronic gauge cluster.
I am so accustomed - and much prefer - the analog gauges. Just give me an old-fashioned speedometer and tachometer. Like most other things, I will adjust over time . . . in the short time I had the M235i, however, I found the electronic gauge cluster extremely unsatisfying. ///AVM |

If you really look at the ethos of the GT4, it is supposedly a race car. In that case, on the track it is beneficial to have taller gearings. Regardless, in real world driving it does not present an issue. Pundits have to say something negative about the car and this happens to be it. In fact, I know how much enthusiasts appreciate Doug Demuro. He himself even said this was arguably the best car he has driven...or something along those lines.
